Just put my car in for MOT and "full service". It passed the MOT without issue, but the total for the service and MOT is £366 which seems HUGE to me.

Apparently the cost of the filters, etc are expensive on my car (Toyota Avensis).

I dont recall ever having paid that sort of money for any car before. Am I over-reacting? Is that the norm nowadays?

Was it from a Toyota main dealer?

Nope...a trading standards approved buy with confidence independent garage.

....and a "Good Garage scheme" garage.

Well the MOT price is c.£55 so £311 for a service looks a lot. Depends on the service though - major/minor?

    Exactly.

My Mazda6 is due its first service soon. Just over £300 from the main dealer. The most expensive for several years to come.

"major".......would have expected them to have stripped the car back to the bone and grease every nut and bolt as they put it back together for that price! .....or again, am I being niaive?

Why not ring the service department of your local Toyota dealer and ask them for the fixed menu price service for your car and the type of service you need. Sometimes main dealer can be pretty competitive.

Did they fit a K&N filter?

check what it needs doing at that service interval and ask them exactly what the service entails. then get a quote from other garages.

Don't know I'm afraid....will be going over their itemised invoice with a fine tooth comb I think.

I am hoping this car has about another 100hp for that money?!!?

Where I normally take my car is £55 per hour. I suspect that this company may charge a fair bit more. I realise it is my fault...I should've asked more questions at the time of booking it in. :(

My wife got her 4yr old Ford C-Max diesel MOT'd and serviced at our local inde yesterday - total cost £170. Yours does seem a bit steep.
