I would like to think that the governmant will cap housing benefit at something more reasonable than the current ridiculous £1,100 per WEEK. £1,000 per month would be more like it.

Not sure about your first point, I have nothing against developers building a flat or a house on the site so long as they are appropriately sized and facilitated. A large flat can easily hold a large family, unfortunately no such flats are being built. I think completely determining the property being built would not be in anybodies interest.

With regard to supply and demand, developers know two tiny flats will eventually sell for more than one large one. Some mug will eventually come along.

Don't really see how my plans of opening up land greenbelt land to built appopraitely sized family properties will push up prices. With this land in use property prices are far more likely to fall, (especially the teeny flats being currently built, when everybody sees them for what they are a complete rip off).

Sorry, that may be my fault. I think I could have worded some of my posts a little better. What I meant was that if you insist on larger properties, then the land cost per property will increase, which will be reflected in the price. Of course, a big house, all other things being equal, will almost always cost more then a little one.

In terms of releasing green-belt land, I don't see that as an issue. Greenbelt land that can be built on will rocket in value, important environmental and social protections will be lost forever and there is no real shortage of available brownfield sites in most of the country. Those areas with sever housing shortage tend to be our more heavily populated urban areas, where green-belt land would have little impact. It's also worth remebering that greenbelt land may proove doubly costly to develop as the extra infrustructure needed is less likely to pre-exist.

My monthly rent in Bristol was pretty similar to my weekly rent in London. £1000 a month wouldn't touch the sides for a family here. Unless you're planning to make ghettos, that's not going to work.
