What is up with ebay buyers

Why do people bid for items they do not want.
I have recently sold 2 items, both quite bulky for collection only, the bidding was brisk in the last few seconds. Both completely separate bidders.
With the first item I sent an invoice with address and telephone information, then sent a separate message through ebay,no response,so after a couple of days I got a telephone no from ebay and tried phoning a couple of times with no reply.
For the second item almost a repeat of the first, with this item,at least someone answered the phone and promised to contact the buyer. But no further response.
I reported both to ebay.
However, why bid and win if you do not want the item.
What does ebay do when you report a non performing buyer.
Why is there no way for sellers to leave negative feedback to warn others?

  • I'm also waiting for someone to pay me! Again. It's only a book so it's going by post but I have a tiny bedroom so having it on my floor is taking up space! I haven't got anywhere else to put it. I expected to have posted it by now. (Sold another one on the same day and that person has paid via e-cheque. So in fact I've got two books taking up space on my floor.)

I'm gonna stop selling on eBay for a while. It's just p***ing my off that people bid on something (especially at the last minute) then "forget" to pay. I've had a few like that in the past couple of months and after bombarding them with invoices, I don't even get an apology.

It's part and parcel I'm afraid (no pun intended). People will do this just because they can.
Don't phone them, don't bombard them. Just use the NPB system.

Seems to be happening more often ive noticed. Ive gone years with no problems but had 4 or 5 non-paying bidders in the last few weeks alone.

Unfortunately because you cant leave negative feedback to buyers there isnt anyway of flagging it to other sellers. You can only go through the NPB process, claim your fees back, give them a strike and relist your item.

Even after you have gone through all this, ebay is still prompting you to give the buyer positive feedback I noticed in my feedback options! Rediculous!

Even if you could leave a negative, that wouldn't stop the buyer from bidding. You wouldnt be able to stop them if they put a bid in at the last minute.
It is a much better idea to use a NPB & then make sure your settings are set so anyone with 2 or more NPB strikes can not bid.
I had an email the other day asking why someone could not bid. I was pleased to see it was because they had too many strikes. Needless to say I didnt reply!
Trying to loose lbs & gain £'s :D

Just to quickly point out that not all last minute bidders could be online.

They could be using a sniping (automatic bidding) tool.

I think it's important to point out in case you didn't know, as I've had sellers get narky at me before because they saw I bid in the last few seconds but I wasn't near a computer at all to pay.

I wouldn't leave it days to pay though.
This is my opinion. There are many others like it but this is mine

I am a professional ebay seller. I work hard at my job, I love my job, if you think it's silly that's your problem not mine. :p

I thought it was just me getting non paying bidders! I never had this when I used to sell stuff a few years ago and it would seem I am on my second one ! The first one was for perfume (where I would expect a higher proportion of time wasters) but the second was for a collectable where I have never had issues before. I am hoping that the second one will pay up in the next few days but no communication so far which is a bit annoying.

I did go through a couple of weeks in the new year where I had three non payers across all my accounts, I usually get none at all. I NPBd them all and then relisted. Two of the items sold of rmore than the original price (by quite a lot of money), and one went to another NPB (argggh I'll never get rid of it)

I've already had one of the buyers email me begging me to remove the strike as he desperately needs to bid on something else (I assume not from me) and can't bid as he gets the 'you have been blocked by the seller as you do not meet their seller preferences as you have xx amount of strikes'. Oh how i laughed as I ignored him.

You win you pay and if you get stopped form bidding then I consider that a great result.

That would almost make up for the frustration !
