In need of a kick up the bum

Options
I have so lost it with my organisation skills, for the last few weeks i seem to have a "can't be bothered" mood.

House is a mess - it seems that every room in the house needs a good clean.

Cooking/bread making - It seems easier to go to the shops

Budget - Is in a right mess

Feel guilty for not doing anything, and when i do it doesn't seem to make a bit of difference.

Please help me, need some advise on how to get back on the straigt and narrow "cooking 'n' Cleaning" again.

UPDATE - Sat 6.45pm - OH made some bread in the BM (thinks hes used it more than me ) - HM pizza in the oven, Veg peeled and ready to go into the CS for tomorrows tea. House clean and tidy, and even my budget balances - what a difference a day makes. PS DD loves the banana bread i cooked yesterday. So feeling really postive now.

Thanks again to everyone on here
Hoping that when I start looking after the pennies, and the pounds will take care of them selves :j

Ok, my first recommendation is to update your sig. Start today. How much money do you anticipate you have left in yourr challenge.

get into the kitchen and turn out all the cupbards, ( giving it a little clean as you go- achievement 1)

Get a pen & paper and try and do a menu plan based on what youve got in write a small list of what you NEED to get you to the end of the month?
 Well aint funny how its the little things in life that mean the most? Not where you live, the car you drive or the price tag on your clothes.
Theres no dollar sign on piece of mind
    This Ive come to know...
So if you agree have a drink with me, raise your glasses for a toast

I went through a stage of this several weeks ago, DH even amade me got to doctors for blood tests!! They all came back clear and the doc then went to the are you depressed routine (I told DH they would try and fob me off with a load of tablets - I neither need or want them was just feeling run into the ground). So first get a tonic or start taking a multi vit. I took Floradix liquid started feeling better straight away.

Then have a read of some of the posts that should help get yourself motivated!! But just choose one or two tasks to do a day dont try to sort everything in one go as it will just overwhelm you.

    Hope your feeling better soon.:grouphug:
  • Get a roll of black bin liners and put an empty one in each room - give yourself exactly 1 hour to fill as many of the bin liners up with rubbish as you can and then get them outside and out of the way. That never, ever fails to work with me because as soon as I start clearing one room I'm on to the next.....don't even bother with the dusting/hoovering just clean out as much of the clutter as possible. Then give yourself 7 days to clean the house spending one hour a day on each room - you won't need as long as this I'm sure but it makes things a bit less overwhelming and I'm all for that. On the 7th day put an hour aside to make the biggest cake you can and treat yourself for all you have achieved that week. After you've had your cake sit down with a pen and paper and draw up a little daily rota of cleaning so you stay on top of it - try and wash and dry the dishes every night so you come down to a clean kitchen and try and de-clutter the lounge before going to bed so that's all clean for you in the morning too.

If you are anything like me you won't be able to think straight if the house is in a mess so give yourself a week to sort out what you can and then start building on that with your menu planners etc

I know how you feel! We are just back in the house after having the ground floor & part of upstairs gutted after a leaking pipe.
boxes everywhere, everytime you try to sort something something else is in the way. Every room is a mess! For some reason we have aquired 3 jars of beetroot:confused: so needless to say the shopping has been a bit haphazard over the past few months and I have no idea what our budget looks like apart from the fact that we're not overdrawn! We have a full larder & freezer but nothing to cook.
Today is my "get a grip" day! I made strawberry jam last night which seemed bizarre as the kitchen is such a mess but it really relaxed me and I keep going and peeking at the jam and feeling like I've actually achieved something:D
Me & DD's have made a list of every room and we're going in each one at a time for 15 mins (true flylady style!) and just sorting out what looks the worst part of the room when you first walk in. Not a fantastic solution I know but the kitchen table is clear, DW and WM on, their books are now out of boxes and on the shelf.
Just chip away at it a bit at a time - every little that gets done is more than was done before. And also if you really can't get motivated try having a break doing something you want to do for an hour to get you back in the swing of things.
And remember you are not alone!

Visit https://www.flylady.com (and if you are able to affoard it splash out on the book)... she has been a God send to me at making me realise that little bits of house work etc make youfeel so much better even if it is just shining your sink and nothing else... also now I am pregnant I am starting to use the Flylady technique to build up a routine so i don't end up in shock in 9 months.

Good Luck mem my mum and most of her work colleagues swear by Flylady now :j

I've been in a similar situation recently, the 2 things which have helped em most are talking about it on here & taking multi-vitamins so that I am not so knackered & run down. House is generally cleaner & tidier than it was a fortnight ago, although still not either how it was a year ago or anywhere near how I would like it. Budget is no longer in free fall & I am actually embracing getting it back on track, all be it that it will take me about 2 years () to catch up with the wasted money over the last 6 months but I am now seeing it as my challenge, which I think is waht I needed:rolleyes:

You can turn it around, you recognize that you need to which is teh first step. Now do you want to? If yes, clean something, anything. It'll be a springboard. Trust me, I'm a seasoned falling-off-the-wagon-OldStyler:D

    Hi Redrose,
Sorry to read that you are feeling demotivated, it happens to us all. I got quite down a while ago when we were really skint and its hard to get out of. Treat yourself to something (even if its time alone, bubble bath etc) to boost your spirits, the urge will come to clean when you feel better.
I must admit though when I watch programs such as 'How clean is your house', it gives me the urge to clean! Your feeling of well being is more important than a tidy house so don't worry.

Would giving yourself a goal help? Or would it put more pressure on you? Little and often is the key, try not to do everything at once.

    Hope this helps...
    :)

Hey Redrose there's some really good advice here and lots of support :grouphug: I've been in a similar position - take babysteps and don't be too hard on yourself.

Lynzpower's tip on emptying your cupboards (and cleaning them!) will mean you know exactly what you've got to add too.

Ruby Pudding is right about decluttering - just a quick tidy up and put away session will make you feel better and the house feel less out of control.

kscour's suggestion of 15 mins per room has really worked for me. You'll be surprised how much you can achieve in such a short space of time.

And liz.. is right - reward yourself. I will often have a choc mini roll or do a quick sudoku puzzle when I've done a manic 15 min tidy up.

I often find a brisk walk and some up beat music is enough to get me motivated when I'm feeling down.

Let us know how you get on.

  • Hello Redrose, sorry that your feeling glum. I hope that you manage to perk up soon. The Queen of storage is back on tonight (Anthea on BBC3) that usually cheers me up as I can't believe some of the things she does and I love seeing how much more messy than I am the people on the show are.:o

Hoping that when I start looking after the pennies, and the pounds will take care of them selves :j
