In our local tesco's its like a fight to the bleeding death on the reduced section. I wouldn't mind so much if it wasn't nearly always the posh 'older' lady who then goes out to her brand new 4X4 (probably explains why she is rich and I am not
)
I work in a fairly posh town and the M&S is always full of VERY posh middle-aged ladies. Whenever they have those dine in for £10 offers it's absolute bedlam in there. There have been so many times I have been looking at the selection and one of these women has pushed me out of the way with her trolley, stood in front of me or virtually taken something out of my hand!
The snow we had over the winter always seemed to bring out the worse in people. My area was quite badly hit. I struggled to the supermarket only to find the bread/milk shelves empty when I got there. Then I spotted some twit with about 35 loaves of bread and pints and pints of milk in his trolley. Someone asked him why he wanted so many and he said it was "just in case" the snow continued. Then someone politely pointed out that there were elderly people and mums wanting bread and milk and surely he doesn't really need to take all of the stock. At this point he got very nasty indeed. Whilst he may have been in his rights to buy all that, it still seems rather selfish.0 -
theres a lady like that in our tescosReplies to posts are always welcome, If I have made a mistake in the post, I am human, tell me nicely and it will be corrected. If your reply cannot be nice, has an underlying issue, or you believe that you are God, please post in another forum. Thank you0

I lived through the "sugar shortage" in the 1970s. OAPs were given priority and many had more sugar stacked in their cupboard than they'd use in 10 life times. I don't blame one age group for snatching bargains but they're all one type - GREEDY!" The greatest wealth is to live content with little."

I used to work in a supermarket and you notice it's always the same people who do this. They were like zombies, standing outside the shop before we'd ever opened, banging on the doors :rotfl:
At the time I was on the deli counter and was all too aware that the majority of the reduced meat was because it had either been dropped on the floor or was so old it was turning green (and the stuff on the counter wasn't much cop either- we were trained to tell people the meat on top was an icky colour because the lights had bleached it, whilst really it was just ancient meat on top of the fresh!)
If you encounter that woman again fight back, take some of the meat out of her hands and run! It takes rudeness to get your own back at rude people0 -
Our local Morrisons is the same, except I have noticed some people take reduced items and doing the rest of their shop and then return to see if any further reductions have been made - if they have they will ask for the goods they already have to be reduced further.
Not much can be done about it, I am sure the supermarkets would rather it sell than have to throw it away.0 -
I was once in Sainsburys at Sunday tea-time. A girl was reducing the cream buns and a woman was greedily grabbing the packs from the shelf as she put them down Noone else was getting a look in. She had a trolley full of various buns - must have been 15 packs.
At least you can freeze meat. Who wants to eat stale pastries for the rest of the week?0 -

I do sometimes wonder whether the person really does need that food, or whether it's just a compulsion. I have got a friend who always has to buy up everything that is being sold at silly prices and then gets home and realises that she doesn't even really like the stuff!0 -
That's where small kids come in handy. Send 'em in underneath everyone else!Gerrard_8_lfc wrote: »I never got my reduced fillet steaks todaySquirrel!If I tell you who I work for, I'm not allowed to help you. I never buy stuff from the reduced section unless it's stuff I'm actually going to use - I can't understand the mentality. It just reminds me of when my gran died (she'd have had "it might come in useful some day" carved on her tombstone if we hadn't cremated her!) and we went to clear out her house - the spare room was like layers of geological strata of what had been on BOGOF in Morrisons at some point in time past... we went down through the coffee layer (she didn't even drink coffee), through the Crunchy Nut Cornflake formation and down into the loo roll. I've tried to avoid massive acquisition of stuff just because it's cheap ever since then.Little miracle born April 2012, 33 weeks gestation and a little toughie!0

i was in co-op last night and some people took the kids out of the pushchair so they could fill it up with reduced bread rolls that they werent going to eat. the bought them purely because they were about 4p a pack.
I always have a chuckle to myself in Morrisons when i see the reduced cakes....:-D)I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the Health & Beauty, Greenfingered Moneysaving and How Much Have You Saved boards.
