best way out of a contract is to die. sad but true, however even then it may pass on to your NOK.

I have to agree with Guys Dad and for my two pence worth I think the problem is that the phone's are 'free' so people don't think there's any real worth in the contract.

I've spoken to people who genuinely believe that a handset is 'free' and that no one has to pay for it anywhere down the line. How they think any company makes any money I don't know (but I suspect that their mental processes don't reach that far !).

And I'm NOT having a go at the op, it's just what I've come across as I speak to customers...

The number of forums I go on and they all have the same question raised, how do I get out of this contract for nothing as I've decided after a year that I don't like the colour of the phone, there's a newer model out now that all my mates have got and I want that one too now. Many people don't seem to realise that a contract is legally binding for the term you've agreed for.

It's terrible being made redundant and having the worry of how you're going to pay the bills, can you see if you can reduce the tariff? Cancelling the insurance could save quite a bit. A few years ago most people had pay as you go phones, now contracts seem more popular as everyone wants the latest big name gadget.

feedback appreciated, dont get me wrong I fully understand the whole idea of the contract and dislike people who want a new contract when a new phone comes out but being jobless and facing eviction is more important than a phone.
have canceled insurance and they may be letting me pay less a month, unfortunatley it would only be going down to £30. but £30 is better than £50 i guess. is there a cheaper reliable insurance for iphones that anyone knows of yet?

Whatever peoples opinions, you home is number 1. A phone contract doesn't put a roof over your head. No one knows what the future holds, everytime we make any commitment its at risk of going wrong.

Good luck in finding a new job.

Can you save some money in a different way? Maybe cancel your landline (if you have one). Its great you managed to lower the monthly, have you tried volenterring to extend the contract in exchange for say a £20 pm option? I dont know if this works but seems like something worth trying. I understand it would make you commit to the phone complany for longer but at a lower monthly cost.

Do you NEED insurance on your phone? I would say not, so why not just cancel it all together.

in 3 more months you would be able to take the contract to the one below, then it would be £30 pcm with 9 months remaining = £270, sell the iphone for £200 (if it's in good condition), £70 outstanding.

    Or

in 3 months, lower the tariff, cancel the insurance, use the saving from the insurance to save up and buy out the contract and you get the keep the phone!!!

or... wait for it.. Plan B!

Sell whatever in your life you dont need to raise (270, like an xbox + games, or PS3 whatever), cancel the insurance and buy out the contract - keep the phone!
:exclamatiTo the internet.. I need to complain about something!
