Thanks Rik, I've done what you've said and it seems to start up a little faster now
Any other tips would be much appreciated!

Thanks, would be really grateful. The main problem I seem to be having now is that the laptop freezes when I have a few different tabs open, and it says internet explorer is not responding at the top. It does happen less now since I've done what Rik said, any tips on how to stop this? Would it stop if I used Mozilla instead of IE?Sometimes you have to go throughthe rain to get to therainbow0

Hi clair,Personally i would Re install your OS! Back them files you need on a Memory Stick and Re install you'll find old DLL'S and Registry Files Clogging up your System.
You could also De-fragment your hardisk this may help you clear some space.
It's in system tools i believe in your Start up menu.0 -
I see no one wants to help you with the HijackThis report.
Open Internet Explorer and go to Tools > Internet Options, select the Programs tab, and then go to the “Manage Add-ons” button. From there click on all of the “Live Toolbar” items and disable them.
Tick and Fix these:
O2 - BHO: Adobe PDF Reader Link Helper - {06849E9F-C8D7-4D59-B87D-784B7D6BE0B3} - C:\Program Files\Common Files\Adobe\Acrobat\ActiveX\AcroIEHelper.dll
O2 - BHO: (no name) - {5C255C8A-E604-49b4-9D64-90988571CECB} - (no file)
O2 - BHO: Search Helper - {6EBF7485-159F-4bff-A14F-B9E3AAC4465B} - C:\Program Files\Microsoft\Search Enhancement Pack\Search Helper\SEPsearchhelperie.dll
O2 - BHO: Groove GFS Browser Helper - {72853161-30C5-4D22-B7F9-0BBC1D38A37E} - C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office12\GrooveShellExtensions.dll

O2 - BHO: Windows Live Toolbar Helper - {E15A8DC0-8516-42A1-81EA-DC94EC1ACF10} - C:\Program Files\Windows Live\Toolbar\wltcore.dll
O3 - Toolbar: (no name) - {0BF43445-2F28-4351-9252-17FE6E806AA0} - (no file)
O3 - Toolbar: &Windows Live Toolbar - {21FA44EF-376D-4D53-9B0F-8A89D3229068} - C:\Program Files\Windows Live\Toolbar\wltcore.dll
If you can find the Search Enhancement Pack in Add/Remove Program, try removing it from there in the first instance.
In fact, you can disable/delete the Add Ons and the BHOs from within Internet Explorer in the way that I've indicated in the first paragraph, rather than doing it via HijackThis, but both will work.
That will speed up your IE8 experience.

Heya,
What about a good ol' defragment and disk clean etc?
Ensure your recycle bin is empty and that there aren't too many folders on the desktop, esp photos! Keep these in your docs folders.
As other replies have said, there isn't much stuff on your laptop. It's all pre-installed Sony stuff.
When is your laptop slowest? Starting up? Does it get quicker the longer it has been on or does it slow down when you have lots of stuff open?
I see you are using Vista which can be quite RAM hungry! Maybe if you are using the sidebar/gadgets, removing those from the desktop would help with start-up speed!0 -
Download and install CCleaner.
Once complete, open the program and choose Run Cleaner and OK to permanent deletion.
Next go to Tools(in the top left hand corner of the program) and then Startup. Now I need to see what you have there, in order to let you know what you can disable.
You do this by choosing Save to txt file... which is now in the bottom right hand corner. Save the file to the destination of your choice and when complete, copy and paste the results here.
I will then let you know what to disable. The reason why we'll do it this way is that it's the easiest way to disable and re-enable Startup entries.
Cutting down on unnecessary programs starting up automatically with Windows, leaves you with more free RAM for the programs that you do need to use.0 -

I'm glad you do :j:A:D

Having a potential blonde moment - I can't seem to see the live toolbar items that you mentionedwhen I go into manage add ons, it gives me tabs for toolbars and extensions, search providers, accelerators and inprivate filtering, I've clicked on them and all can't see what to do next!! I'll do the Ccleaner thing next, I run that quite often anyway so shouldn't take to long. Also, I go on holiday tomorrow, so please don't think that I've done a runner if I don't reply for a while, I really appreciate the help!
