, but how on earth have you been doing a PhD for 3 years and only just realised there is a wifi network in the lab?!?!?? :rotfl: Most university buildings are wireless these days
Women... Oh do you find much chauvinism in your subject, you know, it being male dominated and all??
I did, and it was great :T
Er...we've only just had wifi installed in our university, the list of routers are still hidden so we have to go around looking for them.
And much as you like to be a complete chauvanist, I top the list of hardest person in a lab full of boys. No one messes with me.0 -

My supervisor left the university and emmigrated last week (as well as being on maternity leave for 6 months this year), I need to find a colour printer to print out my 2nd year upgrade paper, though I really can't be bothered to hand it in cos the person in charge in the department is rubbish, never gave any guidelines on the thing and I just can't be bothered. I'm so tempted to leave and see if anyone here noticed. It would probably take a while.
Sorry you are having a rough time of it.OH's superviser left at the start of his 3rd year, and he really struggled after that. He didn't have a second superviser at all, although eventually his main superviser got settled in a new job and gave him some support. I don't have any helpful advice (other than try and find someone there who is actually useful to you), but I just wanted you to know that other people have been dealt the same sort crap and still manage to crawl out the other side of it! I do feel for you though, it's hard enough sometimes anyway, without any extra hassles from the department.
When I had my loft converted back into a loft, the neighbours came around and scoffed, and called me retro.0 -

Oh really??Why don't you come down to our labs - we'll break you in no time :rotfl:
Have you thought about what you want to do as a <cough> 'proper' Biochemist??

Hi there,
The very best support site on the web is https://www.phinished.com
I only found this in my write up year and it is an online group of people who are researching or writing up. You can make writing pacts etc. and there is a great community feel to it - you can even join if you have graduated as there is a finally phinished section too. If you only do one thing on the web, join this site. Honestly, it made such a difference to my final year knowing others were out here writing away.

<cough>I'll be doing more genetics, I'd hate for you to feel inferior.
And where are your labs again?
WOOO....I'm off for the bank holiday weekend, hope not everyone will be [STRIKE]working[/STRIKE] slaving away at their work. :j
Long shot but if anyone is going to Greenbelt, I'll be working on site so you may bump into me.0 -

:rotfl: sorry, did you want to hear about me finding a cure for cancer and saving the world?
'fess up, how many people thought about that when they started they phd? (unless you are really looking for a cure for cancer, of which I humbly apologise and blame my [STRIKE]hysteria[/STRIKE] euphoria for having a WHOLE 5 days off)0 -

Been looking for better treatment if that counts... radiotherapies. Happily we have found some good stuff... unsurprisingly the UK funding bodies are not willing to fund it (interdisciplinary is impossibly difficult).2 + 2 = 4
except for the general public when it can mean whatever they want it to.0 -
Helloo
Thought I would add myself on here as I've just accepted my place for phd after lots of discussion with various mse'er's. My brain is still hurting a bit
after making my mind up, so I'm not going to go into planning/organising mode till next week.
Bit worried though as at the start of this thread I read that arts students may be killed.
