Travelodge Late Check Out

Just back from a Travelodge which was gruesome enough, but that's another issue. When I was booking the room, I payed an extra £10 for late checkout until 2pm to have a lie in. At around 12:30pm, my door was vigourously shook and banged on repeatedly (thank god I wasn't a 'single female traveller'!) which woke me up. I looked out the spy hole to see a cleaner laughing to a receptionist and realising that she had been trying to get into my room by mistake and she was meant to clean the opposite one. Lots of laugh but no apology, I thought they had forgotten I was on late checkout so got back into bed. As soon as I did there was banging on the door again, to which I answered and the same receptionist from before said 'Are you checking out?', in a 'get out right now' tone. I told her about the late check out, she clearly had no clue of it whatsoever and just replied with 'oh right' and then wondered off. I don't know what on earth I had payed £10 for.
I also heard the same stroppy woman banging on another guests door demanding that they leave. The woman had slept in and was genuinely sorry and constantly apologised and said she would be out in 5 minutes, the receptionist blanked everything she said and just muttered over and over again 'Well check out is 12, you have to leave', and again wondered off.
When I did leave I planned on complaning about not getting the lie in I had paid for and the womans attitude but after waiting around 5-10 minutes for a receptionist I left.
Do you think I'm right to want my £10 refunded?
I used to work at Travelodge, but when I did they didn't do the late check out so I don't know how it works!

Certainly complain about the attitude of the staff, but I'd not bother saying you didn't get the lie in you paid for. You paid for late checkout. You got this (albeit with surliness)0 -
shame, really. I stay in Travelodge quite regularly and have always been impressed with the staff.
One particular time i lost gloves either in there or down the pub the night before but didnt realise until after i checked out. I went back up to look for them and the cleaner was in there really very helpful. I found them down the pub eventually. Three months later i went to Travelodga again and the same cleaner was there and without any prompting asked my had i found my gloves from last time i was there. Now that's got to be commendable.
So please dont tar all Travelodges with the same brush.
Like the other poster says, complain by all means about the attitude of the staff but you did actually get your late check out. They may offer it as a gesture of good will but dont hold your breath.make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.

They have tent cards in the rooms saying to 'Sort yourself out with a lie in' which is what I paid for, but I didn't get it because the staff woke me up.
McKneff the experience you had is without a doubt commendable, which hotel was it at?I think Travelodge staff vary, in the Leeds Travelodge I requested more Tea/Coffee, and she gave me so much I wasn't able to carry it so she picked up the rest and brought it to my room right there and then with me which was very kind of her. In this hotel however (Sunderland), all of the 3 staff I seen were rude or unpleasant.Male.

See I disagree on this, it may have been a late checkout but the OP pays for peace and quietness when paying for a room and if that is what is expected then that is what should have been got
I would be asking for the £10 back, complaining about the receptionist and complaining about the lack of people on the desk
That's exactly how I look at it, I just wanted to see whether I was being one track minded about it.
It's a shame when I think about it, there were some elderly ladies staying at the hotel when I was and they said 'Good Morning' every time we passed and held doors/lifts, let me go ahead of them etc, none of which any staff member did. The guests have given me more of a good memory than the staff did!Male.

I think you payed £10 for a morning wake up call, ive stayed in the leeds travel lodge before and it was quite good, not heard of the staff banging on the doors to get people to check out, thats disgusting, complain all the way. You payed £10 for a late check out which you used for a lie in and you didnt get that as you were interrupted0

I'd be demanding my tenner back too. Hotel cleaners trying to hammer the door down or bursting in before 8am when checkout isn't till 10am or 11am is a major pet irritation of mine. If they did it after I'd payed extra too I'd be seething.0

That's funny! Was it the Leeds Central one?I think you payed £10 for a morning wake up call, ive stayed in the leeds travel lodge before and it was quite good, not heard of the staff banging on the doors to get people to check out, thats disgusting, complain all the way. Ha yes, if I had paid for a wake up call I'd be very pleased!crackerberry wrote: »I'd be demanding my tenner back too. I always find that annoying too, but normally they don't go to as much effort as in this case. The one cleaning lady was very annoying in trying to force me out so she could go home, she even answered her mobile calls right outside of my room (about buying bread rolls because she couldn't afford to get stottie cakes!) in a very loud voice, so that's something else for this imaginary letter I'm thinking up. I made a point of not leaving until I think 1:59pm, heaven forbid if I left at 2:01pm and face the harridan receptionist coming bounding down the corridor after me! :eek:Male.

You think you had it bad !
We stayed in a devere hotel in daventry and for some insane reason they decided it would be a good idea to test the fire alarms at 8am !!
That was a loverly rude awakening after a late night !
When I had a moan at the guy on reception and said to him why couldn't they have done it in the afternoon, he looked rather puzzled and said "that probably would have been a better idea" .....
As for you problem, I would also complain, you paid for the room until 2pm, they had absolutely no reason to disturb you other than their staffing incompetence.
Cleaner barging into rooms really gets my goat (not that own a goat...) , I put a do not disturb sign up and yet they still come barging in muttering about towels and beds .....0 -
it was the one on Vicar Lane. Would recommend it to anyone.
Clean, Modern, nice staff. The one 'but' is in the bar a glass of wine was
= wait for it= £4.75
Needless to say we went down to Hoagys for a meal where the wine was about £2.25make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
