Hard drive failure imminent, I have a question!?!

When I try to boot it up (ignore the SMART notification) , It just starts loading and then restarts. I also tried accessing the hard drive internally and externally using a pc with ubuntu but no change either.

I won't format it I don;t want to make things even more difficult

@Total solutions, what do you mean have tried freezing it yet? Do you mean putting it in the freezer?

Freezer is something to try after all other avenues have failed, try a bootable CD/flash drive

Is the SMART software free? I think I might have harddrive failure and when I've googled I keep reading about SMART to test the HDD but don't know what it is or if it's freeware.

What are the symptoms?

Look on the disk manufacturers website for free diagnostics

Thanks, I've downloaded Speedfan. I'm not really sure what I should be looking for though. If I upload the SMART readings would someone be able to tell me if the harddrive is ok? Thanks

What makes you think you have a disk failure? It looks healthy.

Hi, The HDD light on the front of my unit is on constantly.

That's because it's in use, maybe you're running out of ram, and it's swapping, or a virus scanner is scanning
