Wondering if anyone has any sugguestions, as i seem to be hiting a dead end. Problem: £150,000 needed for essential church repairs. We have started fundraising, and since Christmas have made about £4000 - which isn't bad seeing as there are so few of us.
Does anyone have ideas of where I could apply for funding (NOT LOTTERY)?

Thanks in anticipation!

How many of you are there? Do your members tithe? Is it an old enough building for some kind of heritage grant?
The ability of skinny old ladies to carry huge loads is phenomenal. An ant can carry one hundred times its own weight, but there is no known limit to the lifting power of the average tiny eighty-year-old Spanish peasant grandmother.

    Hi

About 20 members - some tithe, most don't - but any income from giving goes to the day to day running, and not the building fund. The building is 50 years old, and not a traditional looking church.

It's a radical thought but how about giving up the building and meeting in a home or rented hall/school instead? That'd sort out any overhead problems.

That is something that I have been toying with the idea with - or a church share - going in with another church. The other option would be to flog off the land/building and buy a property and have a house church.

Is your group part of a bigger denomination? Which other groups would you feel closest to? Joining forces with another church can be a positive thing - a pastor friend in Massachusetts has just done this, not because of money, but because a house-group in the area shared such a similar ethos it made sense to pool resources and work together.

We have been working closely with another church in the area already, and they have excellent facilities. Perhaps the way is being paved for us to work more closely together?

WREN https://www.wren.org.uk give money to churches for upkeep of their buildings. You can get about 40k from them if you live in the right areas. You need to live within about 10 miles of a waste recycling plant.

Your local Friends of 'your county' Churches give grants, as do some charities, you should be able to find a list of grant making bodies in the library.

Other ideas, Quiz nights, cake stalls, quiz sheets, concerts, coffee mornings, teas for coach parties, jumble sales, car boot sale. Pm me if you want more details.

Obviously I know nothing about the church, but is it possible to have it scheduled as an historic building. You might then be able to apply for grants.

Have you thought about a website linked to the town, that can get the word out to many that you need to fundraise, and perhaps look out for tv programmes that renovate big buildings? I think one is called village restoration or something
