T-Mobile and a useless G1 advice?

Hi. I'm 2 months away from the end of my 18month Flext35 contract. I had a G1 that I took into a T-Mobile store for repair as it kept dropping calls and corrupted two micro-sd cards. When they returned it after 3 weeks of twiddling (I've been using an old basic Nokia I bought in Nairobi in the meantime - no internet capability) After picking it up from the storie I now have a G1 that resets powering off during calls. The phone has been next to useless for about 2 months now.

Since I'm near the end of my contract I don't see the point of taking it into t-mobile for another 3-4week repair. T-mobile say that they can't just send me a refurb phone until the G1 has been in for repair twice.

Anyone have any advice what I can do to get a decent phone until July? Should I just ditch t-mobile and pay a £58 cancellation fee and move now? I'm hankering after a HTC Desire....
