I ended up with stitches top
    Please be careful!

This is why I won't have one! I love the idea of getting perfect slices and different shapes but Im so clumsy I just know it would be lethal in my hands!

They're as safe as a sharp knife blade. You just need to make sure that when you're getting anywhere near the blades you use the guard which is provided. If it won't go through and you want to use the last bit, chop that bit by hand. Like a knife TAKE CARE! I'm the clumsiest person I know and I've done OK. And used properly it really saves time! Greek Salad in about 1.5 mins (2 Cucumbers 4 large tomatoes)!

I could make it better myself at home. All I need is a small aubergine...

I moved to Liverpool for a better life.
And goodness, it's turned out to be better and busier!
  • Lost the side of my thumb using one of these!! USE CAUTION

Saying that, they are really great - but as others have said USE THE GUARD

I've had mine for years and find it excellent, but very sharp. I can't remember how many times I've sliced my fingers with it in the washing up bowl. Maybe factor in a box of plasters when you're working out your savings!

I tend not to use mine anymore, too many cuts, I have used knives as a professional and apart from maybe the first year have never cut myself on a knife, the problem with these things is they can be very clumsy to use sometimes depending on what you are cutting and how you handle them, whereas with a knife the auto pilot kicks in and only the food gets cut!

I use my food processor for slicing, chopping, grating - it doesn't work unless the lid is secured on so is quite safe for fingers. It's small enough to sit on the worktop most of the time and easy to rinse under the tap, so is no hassle. And is dishwasher proof for when a 'deep clean' is needed. £25 from Boots and the best item in my kitchen!

As for saving money, in the short term definately not as you will now hurry out and buy whole trolley fulls of fruit and veg to play with it and end up throwing half the food away, in the long term possibly depending on whether you use it or not, as many owners of this wonderfull gadget will tell you the enthusiasm is short lived due to the fact two minutes work with the slicer usually results in 20 mins rinsing the damn thing out and putting it away again. Let's just say it's potential is as sound as your resolve.

I wonder if this would be good for us. I've started buying a lot of those vegetable crisps (carrot, sweet potato, something purple - can't remember, lol). Think it would be cheaper making our own but we are both a bit ham handed and tend to door stop everything. At least we'd get fairly even thin slices with a proper slicer.

(Would we just put the slices in a hot oven or would we fry them? :o )

    Hi

I also use my food processor for chopping and slicing, I know from past experience that a slicer woould be far too dangerous in my hands, i took the top of my finger off with a knife!! Im much better off with a safe processor!!
    Starting with a clean slate.

My food processor will also make crisps/slices though it probably isn't as adjustable as the V-slice. but what you've never had you can't miss... unlike the average finger which is lost on the old V-slice :)
