As a recent 'first-timer' at setting up a computer from new I'm still learning the basics and wondered if there was a guide somewhere as to which settings to employ for various things.
For example right-clicking on malwarebytes and selecting properties brings up a variety of tabs (general/security/details etc.)
If I access this from the desktop shortcut it shows 4 different Group User Names under the security tab. However, if I go via Start/Search/Malware it shows 5 different Group User Names?
Another example could be a query I posted previously,

I doubt I'm the only newbie to get confused and have ongoing queries, so it would be great if something were available.
(I am after borrowing 'idiots guide to windows 7' from my local library but there is a LONG waiting list apparently).
I do of course ask all you lovely people on here from time to time but don't want to become a pain in the proverbial:D
Thanks:)

why not use the help files that come with every pc0

Have you tried clicking "Help and Support". This will connect you to the Windows help page and guide you through the basics. Before the moans come in, I know it's not ideal but it is free and if the OP does not want to pay for instruction it is a start.0

Thank you for the replies so far. I do use the help and support feature and also look on here regularly or google things. I'm just seeing what else may be available. (Not really in a position to go to any computer courses locally, and these tend to start in September anyway).

There on some hints/tips on W7 below, which I posted for someone some months ago. I have not looked at them in great depth but there are some quite useful pointers.

Evening DCM/Rob:)
Thanks for the links.
The first two look familiar - I know 'closed' posted me a neowin one about backups on a previous thread and I've seen howtogeek mentioned on this forum too.
I know I'd put a couple I'd been given on this EXCELLENT forum in my bookmarks on firefox but I can't find them (thats some more reading up I need to try and arrange in the future:D).
Will add them to my list of 'computer things to do' - growing by the day:eek:0
