Just changed to Firefox and a bit unsure of which options to have ticked/unticked, for security when surfing the web.
Should Javascript be enabled as it is at present? (Also I have a Java Update available - should I accept this?).
Load images automatically?
Accept cookies from sites?
Accept third party cookies?
Clear history - every .. days or when Firefox closes?
Remember download history?
Remember search and form history?
Sorry for all the dumb questions
but I'm trying to get my new pc set up correctly from the start, then I can just get on and enjoy it:)

Also, in the security tab it's prob best to have these checked:
"Install add-on warning"
"suspected Attack site
"suspected Forgery"Instigated terrorism the road to dictatorship.0 -

Mine are more or less the same as bat999 except of course I use the No-Script addon too, and adblock as well. I would also suggest exporting your bookmarks too (there have been a few posts about problems with recent FF updates.. I have had none but I am recently now at 3.6.3 and it is too soon to be sure). You are really trying to make sure that you have no problems in the future, sadly no one on this forum can guarantee that, for you nor themselves.4.8kWp 12x400W Longhi 9.6 kWh battery Giv-hy 5.0 Inverter, WSW facing Essex . Its good to update and enable Javascript in Firefox, also please check you are having the latest Firefox version 3.6.30 -
Note that Java and Javascript are 2 different things.Move along, nothing to see.0

Yes, you can safely accept the Java update. After that i'd set it to stop checking for updates, it gets annoying and is unnecessary.poppy100

So is the update okay?
It says: Java Update available
Program name: jucheck.exe
Publisher: unknown
File origin: hard drive on this computer
Yes.
Java is one of the languages used by websites, I had an update a couple of days ago, to 6.0.19 (I think).
Just seen poppy 10s reply, if you go to Control Panel there should be a Java icon.
You'll have to search the various tabs, but there is an option to set the update scheduler, mine is set to check once a month.
Best to keep it up to date, as it can be exploited by nasties.Move along, nothing to see.0 -
Thank you poppy and spud for your replies re. Java.:T
Re: firefox options. These are the ones I've selected:-

Can someone please let me know if I have got them all correct, thanks:)0 -
I suggest blocking 3rd party cookies completely, they are a way of tracking you as you surf. Don't see the point of keeping history either.!!
