Yes, you can safely accept the Java update. After that i'd set it to stop checking for updates, it gets annoying and is unnecessary.

they issue updates to patch vulnerabilities within the java software so disabling the update features are not advised for system security reasons.

I'll probably reduce the history, rather than delete it as it can be useful very occasionally:)

I actually left this as it was and it has only 'pestered' me a couple of times, which is okay.

As you say, it is better for it to be on, thanks:)
