You want to contact the council to stop someone parking there? But wont that apply to you parking there also?

If its not your land there isnt much you can do.

I used to live in a house right on a junction, So i always parked in the close opposite, I had lived there since i was 4 & always played in the close, Knew everyone that had kids.
As the kids & parents moved out new people moved in & one took it upon himself to tell me i couldnt park there.
Told him where to stick his car, If its not your land you have no legal rights to stop people parking outside your house.
I get it here, I know on a friday the guy opposite will have his car and the works van he will try and park outside mine as there is more space.
Its life go and live it.
Buy some cheap bangers & take up all the spaces?

Would you rather parking bays were painted outside everyones house and we had the bureaucratic nightmare of everyone having to have a parking permit to park outside their own properly... shudder!

    I agree - shudder!

In my road we escaped this when the Council tried to impose it last year. Their letter was shocking in its bias 'aren't you lucky, you can be next to be included in this parking scheme and lots of residents have told us it's needed!'

Errrr...no thanks. Our road is narrow and as well as paying for the privelege we would have lost half the road to DYL - but the Council didn't want to point that out to residents. So I did - I leafleted the whole area - not sure what the result would have been anyway but thank goodness the residents voted no!

Anyhoo, we often 'lose' the parking space outside our house during the day as local workers know our roads are unrestricted. But hey ho, we don't own the space and we can normally park within a couple of hundred yards of our house, so no problem.

Sorry OP, IMHO you need to stop being bothered by something so minor.

having lived in london before i know how bloody annoying it feels to have to park streets away from your own house (well gillingham not quite london)
so a car park really close would have suited me.
having siad that i hate people parking outside my house now and there is room for loads of cars
in fact there are 3 containers and a lorry out there right now and i can still get into the driveway!!!
    go figure
i would not dream of complaining,
i do believe the gillingham parking situation influenced the way i think now
as despite loads of room i felt peeved this morning when i saw the third container being dropped off
yet when i put a skip out there i dont feel the same way
i want to have my cake and eat it too!!!!
    63 mortgage payments to go.

Have your neighbours given you the impression they mind you using "their" path? Perhaps if they seem approachable try discuss the issue with parking to them and ask if they mind you using their path?

I'm about to move into a flat and not sure if there will be a parking nightmare there yet, lol. I know the road the one side of access is double yellows and across the road max stay one hour no return within 2 during the day (or something along those lines). There is an allocated space for one car with the flat at the rear.
