Please Help, Need & Basic Bank Account

Hi All,
Does anyone know of any bank which will be likley to accept me? i was thinking of trying for a Clydesdale Readycash Account, do you think this is worth while?
I just can't beleive that most of the two banks which we the uk taxpayers pretty much own can say no to me?
Also i started a petition a few weeks ago on the number 10 website to asking to force UK banks to provide every uk taxpayer with a basic bank account although obv borrowing facilities would be subject to credit checks.
Any advice is much appreciated, thanks.
Everybody that plays by the rules can have an account - those that don't will struggle.
The banks are a business - if you were in business would you like customers like yourself on your books?0 -
Hi All,
In the last 1 year i have applied for basic accounts from lloyds TSB, RBS & Glasgow Credit Union and have been declined from all of them due to credit history problems, as it stands i currenlty have 1X CCJ, 1X Un-Satisfied Default From HBOS, 1X Satisfied Default From Robinson Way, i have been in to my credit file with experian and had all associations with a previous partner / address removed fully and also tidied a few small things up with would not have affected my rating in the first place according to experian.

it would be one thing to allow banks to refuse people if society didn't force people to use banks for their wages/benefits.
so without an alternative people are effectively forced out of society.0 -
that's an absolutely ridiculous point of view.

Wages can be paid into a basic account but if someone helps themself to money which is not theirs then what do you expect?
Please answer the point about if you were in business would you work for somebody that did not pay you??
Same argument here.0 -
Basic accounts do not have overdrafts so no risk to the banks!
Like wishface says if you don't have a bank account, you are unlikely to be able to get a job (except with a dodgy employer, who pays cash in hand)0 -
How did you get on? Did you get an acount opened yet?
You can actually continue use your HBOS account for your employer to put wages in.0
