Please Help, Need & Basic Bank Account

Hi All,
In the last 1 year i have applied for basic accounts from lloyds TSB, RBS & Glasgow Credit Union and have been declined from all of them due to credit history problems, as it stands i currenlty have 1X CCJ, 1X Un-Satisfied Default From HBOS, 1X Satisfied Default From Robinson Way, i have been in to my credit file with experian and had all associations with a previous partner / address removed fully and also tidied a few small things up with would not have affected my rating in the first place according to experian.
Does anyone know of any bank which will be likley to accept me? i was thinking of trying for a Clydesdale Readycash Account, do you think this is worth while?
At the moment i am with think banking and paying £12.50 a month for a current account :-(
I just can't beleive that most of the two banks which we the uk taxpayers pretty much own can say no to me?
Also i started a petition a few weeks ago on the number 10 website to asking to force UK banks to provide every uk taxpayer with a basic bank account although obv borrowing facilities would be subject to credit checks.
Any advice is much appreciated, thanks.

Ask Yorkshire BS at central station for a cash transactor account. It only comes with a cashcard though,no debit card.I have a deep burning indifference0

I was thinking of going with Clydesdale Ready Cash perhaps?0

What about a building society instead? Have you tried nationwide?0
-
No i've not tried building societys, are they not more restrictive on their selction criteria?0
-
They used to be a lot easier - I used to be a trainer with young offenders and we found Building Societies were much easier to open an account with than any banks.
Good luck.0 -
Great, thanks for the info, will maybe pay the yorkshire a wee visit during the week!0

If no joy with Yorkshire BS,theres a co-op bank near Glasgow central station as well for the cashminder account (always forget about them as theres no branch in Greenock)I have a deep burning indifference0

Natwest Step account (if they still do them). You just get a cash point card with SOLO so you can use it in the shops. No cheque book, no OD facility but you can have DD's and SO's set up from it like any other account.
I had one a few years back when I had bad credit and it is fine and still have it as I don't want to have any temptation and it works perfectly in the UK and outside. It can be upgraded when you are in a better financial situation.
you can apply online too"People buy things they don't need, with money they don't have, to impress people they don't like" - Clive Hamilton on Consumerism.0
