Curry's 'whatever happens' and my netbook...

Firstly, apologies if this is in the wrong section.
I bought a Samsung NC10 netbook on 1st Jan this year from Currys and also took out the 'whatever happens' cover for £3.99 a month. Around 5 weeks or so later it started getting 'blue screen of death' and also (eventually as often as 3 times a day) a black screen saying 'operating system not found' so I had to turn it off and on again. (this is all before my OH dropped it - i have a thread on that - so dropping it hasn't caused this problem)
Reason I bought the netbook was so that it wouldn't take up much space on my desk - however it turned out it was just too small to do my coursework on properly, so last month I went and got a Dell Inspiron which does the job just fine. (took out the £7.99 a month cover on that too).
So, as I wasn't going to be using the netbook myself anymore I cancelled (in the bank) the direct debit for the cover on it (3.99). The last payment for that came out at the beginning of this month, so am I covered for this month or does cover cease when the DD is cancelled? Will currys know i cancelled it yet?
Plan was to take the netbook to currys and ask them to fix the errors on it... are they going to try to (con) charge me? I planned to get it repaired and then sell it as it's only 4 months old and still obviously has the rest of the manufacturer's warrenty. Once that's sold it makes my replacement laptop much cheaper.
Read a lot of bad stuff on here about the tech guys... so what do you think? I did ask about this briefly in currys when I bought the other laptop (hoping they would take it back, leaving me to just pay extra for the Dell but was told no) they said they have no tech guys but PC world next door does and to take it there. To add to that, my ex is the pc world tech guy lol so I have fears he would do something bad to the netbook...
Am i better off getting Samsung to sort this under their manufacturers warrenty? Is it even worth having the 'WEH' cover on my dell? Could do without spending that 7.99 a month to be honest.
Thank you for any replies

You could try and return it to Currys under the Sale of Goods act (being as it is faulty) and get your money back that way, as long as no damage was caused when you dropped it.0

Thanks already tried that unfortunately. They said they could only take it back upto 28days from when I bought it.£2 Savers Club 2011 (putting towards a deposit

It's stil under warranty so go back to Currys and tell them to send it back to the manufacturer.
I don't know why you took the cover out really, complete waste of money in my opinion.0 -
I would get on to Consumer Direct.
Under the Sale of Goods Act you have the right to repair or replacement if it doesn't conform to the Act within 6 months.

So I can still take it back even though I cancelled the cover last week? Do I need to get it sorted sharpish before this month of cover runs out, or was it voided as soon as i cancelled? Thanks for replies so far.£2 Savers Club 2011 (putting towards a deposit

Just thought, as I cancelled the DD in my bank and not through currys, do I need to let them know? In other words are they going to try to grab money from me or something?£2 Savers Club 2011 (putting towards a deposit

You should be able to still take it back and get a replacement or repair for the netbook under the sales of gods act, regardless of whether you hold their other insurance policy or not, if you've cancelled this it doesn't affect your statutory rights.
They will try to wriggle out of it, but lookup the sales of goods act and print it out if you need to, you will need some persistance with Currys!0 -
Thanks, will give it another go (with a print out as you suggested). As far as I'm concerned the netbook is not 'fit for purpose' as it's going wrong already.£2 Savers Club 2011 (putting towards a deposit

And FYI the insurance cover you took out will end only on the last day of the period you paid for, regardless of when the DD was cancelled. So, if the took a month's payment on 1/1 and you cancelled the DD on 1/15, your insurance would still be effective until 31/1.42 years of experience in the insurance industry.
And nothing the industry tries do to us surprises me any more!0
