TV Licence

I'm about to move into my first house on Friday and have just been told that when I move, and apply for a TV licence I will have to pay £30 a month for the first 6 months and £11 a month thereafter.
Something about paying a year ahead.
Firstly, what a scandalous piece of legislation and secondly, is this true?
Anyone able to help me out here, as I can't find a mention of it on the TV Licensing website.
So I have to pay twice in one year, for a years licencing? If I'm paying a year ahead, do I get the next year free or something? Because I do not see how I ever get my years premature payment back!? If you then have to keep paying £11 a month for the years you have a licence, then you never actually get your money back unless you give up TV? Am I missing something here?!
£150 for 6 months of TV usage!? Christ, I only watch Sky anyway!! Hardly ever watch BBC! Infact, only ever watch Top Gear!!

you are making larger monthy payments at the start, instead of paying the full £131 up front. Think about it!!
You pay for the license in advance for 1 years viewing, just as you do with your car taxgo on, adopt a greyhound

I haven't been asked to yet, it's what I have been told, by 2 people now! Just rang a friend who's just divorced and moved into a new place, shes having to pay £30 for 6 months and £11 thereafter for 6 months, total = £246.
My sister had to do the same. (I don't know if they are rounding up the £30).
To the poster who said your paying a year in advance, that's fine, but does that mean I get it back at the end of the year? (the over payment that is) or do I get a years free licencing or something?!
As were 6 months through the financial year, are you saying I have to pay for the previous 6 months? As my mum and dad already have done! I haven't even watched TV at the new house yet, let alone any point in the previous 6 months?!
I might just see if I can pay a year up front for the £131.
I don't get it....unless I get a year free or something. Otherwise, if it then carries on at £11 a month the next years, what I have pre-paid for?!0 -

Pay monthly
You'll pay for your first licence by Direct Debit in equal monthly payments within the first six months.
If you don't already have a licence, or your current licence has less than six months to run, you'll make fewer but larger payments.
After this, you can start paying towards your next licence in 12 monthly instalments of around £11 per month (six payments before it begins and six after). These payments will always add up to the same amount as the annual licence fee.go on, adopt a greyhound

You can pay annually when the license is due, this is what we have done for years.
I refuse to use the DD scheme, you are in effect paying in advance for a license which itself is paid in advance... what a con.
Normally, your payments now are towards next year's license. Because you are starting from scratch, they allow you to pay for this year's license at the same time, i.e. they add it to this year's payments.0 -

Right, so this is like when I do my SA and you have to pay half of next years tax bill (which can be a small fortune) before you have even earnt the money.
So basically, from what I see from the above, I pay double in my first year because I myself have not had a licence before. So, if were paying a year in advance, if we get rid of our TV, do we ever get the money back, after all, we have paid for a year of something we haven't yet watched.
I must say, what a complete con. How many people claim this money back from the beeb when someone has died? I bet nobody. So in essence, were always going to pay double 1 year and they are just going to keep the money?
If I pay up front, will they want 2 payments up front?
Why does the government think they can just go ahead and charge us up front for something we haven't done yet, earned yet etc.
I would rather pay the full year cost than pay 6 months of £30 and 6 of £11.
Is this possible?! It's all a bit confusing!!
Got to do the same with my water. Based on 3 people that live there now, water rates are roughly £30 a month. So, they have told me, mine will be £60 for thr first 6 months as they are estimating. LOL, I'm single, out at work all day and out at the weekends, I'll use less than 3 people! (it's on a meter)
Seems like you cannot get ahead in this country at all.0 -
