Hi have just got a new laptop (samsung R580) it came with pre installed mcafee on it, already had one virus on it (the one which says you are infected with virus click here to install the latetest software and pay for it here! Didn't download buit still infected the laptop)
luckily the pc comes with reset function to remove everthing back to a pre set date. The place i bought it from sent me a virus protection called bulldog anyone know anything about it. Not installed it yet cause got Mcafee thought would be good because recgonised it? SHould i get rid of Mcfee and install this or should i get AVast that i had on a previous machine.
Help would be appreciated i'm in a quandry!!

Bullguard I think you mean - can't do any harm trying it, probably better than mcafee which is not my fav.
If you don't get on with bullguad, you could try others like panda internet security or kaspersky.0 -
System Restore won't help, because McAfee will have been installed at the factory. Dump McAfee and use Avira (for a free AV program) or Kaspersky for a paid one (though the latter is free with Barclays online banking if you have that).
Make sure you run the McAfee Removal Tool after uninstalling to get rid of all traces of it before you attempt to install your new AV.No free lunch, and no free laptop0 -
Sounds like you had a rogue security programme try to download, recommend downloading the latest version of Malwarebytes and run that before doing anything else first.
Click the green arrow symbol which says "Download
Latest Version
5.87MB

Once you have downloaded Malwarebytes open it and then update it first before running a full scan.
Post the log file here when scanning has finished.0 -
McAfee is essentially junk and relying on it for AV will more likely than not leave you very open to infections (as you have found). I'd ditch it and use one of the free reliable AVs frequently quoted on here
Avira, Avast or Microsoft Security Essentials - My personal recommendation would be the Microsoft one.
If Mcafee is reinstalled by your restore process be sure to google for and use the McAfee removal tool to erradicate all trace as it has a poor uninstall program.0 -

I currently use Bit Defender which seems to be the best I have used yet it has different setting depending on your computer knowledge from simple to advanced each allowing you further control over what I does and when it does it. Priot to this I used AVG for a good few years, was an excellent anitvirus, and even better it was free, im not 100% its still free think it is. If so id say use this for free protection, Scrap McCrappy Sorry McAfee from your computer its generated a reputation due to the numbers games of sales (thanks to deals with most of the big consumer selling Pc's). I wouldnt touch it with a barge pole but each to there own! best of luck.0
