£16,580 at Carfile (brand new 10 plate, unregistered), I'd hope that an ex courtesy car is less than that though0

But I live in Northern Ireland. The 12 miles of water makes a big difference to prices and availability.Norn Iron Club Member 3300

What's involved with using a UK registered car in NI? (if the difference is that large?)
Would it need to be re-registered?
What's your price for your slightly used one?0 -
Without giving too much away, just a little bit less than yours.Norn Iron Club Member 3300

All the nearly new MK6 Golfs in Northern Ireland will be brought over from VW UK head office in Milton Keynes.
When I bought mine a few months back I had it re-registered to a Northern Ireland plate.
I'm not sure if I am allowed to mention company names but I originally went to buy a car from Issac Agnew VW who were offering me a used 09 Golf GT with a basic spec for a high price. I managed to get a bit knocked off but still wasnt convinced it was a good deal. Shopped around and managed to find an 09 Golf with Sat Nav, parking sensors and loads of other toys for £600 less than the price Agnew were offering me.
So pop into a few other dealerships and see if they can beat the price you were offered.0 -

Actually £16,159 - I read the price for the DSG automatic one before.
£16,019 from UK Car Discount (who I've never heard of). How close am I getting to your used price? Close enough that the price of a return ferry ticket seems insignificant? :rotfl:0 -
Ok, we're paying more than that. Buying from England wouldn't be a problem - it was something we'd considered. The problem is that we have an ageing car to trade in. A dealer will take a quick look at our current car and give us a price (and what we were offered was reasonable). The car we have needs a fair bit of work (new clutch, the wipers are on the blink, it's been guzzling coolant, it's overdue a major service, the MOT is due soon and there's a fair bit of paintwork damage). Nothing a garage or mechanic couldn't fix fairly easily. Nobody in their right mind looking for a car to drive away is going to give us the same value as the trade in plus we'd have the hassle of having to try to sell it. We did it once and it was much more stressful than taking a small risk that the dealer has done you out of a few hundred quid.
I did look on the web at similar cars from franchised dealers in mainland UK and they were all coming in at the same price or slightly more, plus they had higher mileage. OK, there's always room for manoeuvre in the prices but ... there's the trade in!
However, something in the back of my head is saying 'you should have bought a Leon'. Same spec, rubbish visibility, sportier looks, lower resale value .... but a few grand cheaper to buy.
Never mind, did I tell you I'm winning EuroMillions this week?!Norn Iron Club Member 3300 -

We've already agreed the price for the car (it's a good deal), so now we have to negotiate what extras we can get to save them having to fill in finance forms. Hmm, tank of fuel, free servicing, a year's road tax?! After all, they're going to have a nice wad of cash in their account!!
Thanks for all your help.
.....but if you have agreed the price then thats it - negotiation over. How can yoy go back and try to add extras after you have agreed a price?
Taking finance would have given you more power to negotiate as they would have been making a chunk of commision on t0 -
We had agreed the basic price ... but not whether we were going to finance it through them, that was left open.Norn Iron Club Member 3300
