Clothes sizing

I have just looked at a number of high street retailers websites and their sizing guide. I found that their clothes are actually sized very differently to their sizing guide.
Do you measure the same inches as you favourite shops size guide and which shops are the most generous as obviously we all want to feel we are a smaller size than we are!

I find more than the sizing, it is the shape of certain shops clothes that effect me more. Some shops (like H&M, Topshop, miss selfridge) tend to be fairly 'up and down' with no curves in. So for my shape I find Next, New look, and Asda to be good. I find that no matter what though, if I buy trousers to fit my hips the waist is always baggy- damn my hourglass shape!0

I agree about the shape thing. I am an hourglass and there are some shops I just don't bother going into because the clothes are just for straight up and down shapes.
Shops aimed at older ladies tend to have bigger sizes with smaller sizes on the labels, whereas shops aimed at teens will be much smaller. I know I can fit into M&S clothes that are labelled as being smaller than my actual size.0 -
i am a size 12 but in say matalan/peacocks and primark i can wear a 10 quite easily, where as shops like next and new look i can buy a 12 straight off the rail and its fine yet top shop i have to go a size up. it is very strange just how the measurements differ in the shops i also find this with my girls when buying their clothes too:xmastree:Is loving life right now,yes I am a soppy fool who believes in the simple things in life :xmastree:0

i find all shops vary. i end up buying clothes ranging from size 10 ( and it being big) to a 14 and it being small! i love george clothing. i seem to need size 13 in jeans. 12's are a little tight yet 14 are huge.0

I am surprisd about Primark always felt these were small - don't buy there myself atm, but do for DD. My hour glass is more like an hour and a half atm! However have always struggled with 12 inch difference between bust/hips and waist, (always have been even when I weighed 81/2 stone!). I am a different size on each body part! JCR - what shop are you a 10 in, I'll go there!0

George actually did 1/2 sizes in jeans, but i havent seen them in my local store for ages... i would rather buy15's than 16's lol0 -
I'm another hourglass that struggles as most places sell straight up and down stuff.
I'm going on holiday in a fortnight and have been putting off clothes shopping as I hate going as I can never find anything that fits properlyHere I go again on my own....0 -

I too find most shops vary with their sizing but I've found Dorothy Perkins always seems to size on the generous side.
I recently went clothes shopping in the States though and found the sizing in some of their high street stores even more varied than over here!0 -
brians daugther , we don't have an asda on isle of wight, i generally shop for george clothing on ebay or asda.com.
patchwork cat, matalan is where i fit a 10. mainly in skirts and top's, but not trousers very often.0 -
If it's any help, I am size 6 in Next and Marks & Spencer and a size 8 in Monsoon and Warehouse. Brands for the very young, like Miss Selfridge, well... I doubt I could squeeze into a size 10! The "probably too young" stores like River Island, New Look, Dorothy Perkins and Top Shop yield a size 6-8 depending on the style and whether it's from the petite or regular range. Supermarket clothes are generously sized, so I'd presume a size 6 as nothing instore seems to fit.0
