AOL or Sky ?

My daughter just moved and has waited 5 weeks for aol to reconnect her, with no luck yet. She wants to leave them but we are in a very rural area and we havent got much choice. I looked on the Sam site and it says the only thing ticked is ADSL.
She is a Sky customer and wants to know if Sky Broadband is any good?
Also is there any way to make aol move their asses on this ?

if there is no LLU then Sky broadband is not great from what i have seen.

there are plenty of good (or at least better) ISP's out there than AOL or Sky when it comes to non LLU suppliers the main ones in my experience for quality are Newnet, Idnet and Zen althought some of the big things that you need to know is

how much usage does she ACTUALLY need, lots of people just say they want unlimited however on a non LLU connection unlimited never really happens and usualy entails traffic management and poor customer service

is she willing to put up a bit of extra 'upfront' costs to get her own modem router and pay the connection fee? (just remember any that provide these things have to recoup the costs somehow and will usually tie you into a 12 month contract as well)

what does she actually use her conection for Plusnet do some well priced deals however have heavy traffic management, this however is not that bad as they do actualy publish what and how they manage the traffic unlike most other suppliers who just have a ambiguous fair usage policy

on a £100 shop you might on average get 70 items save
    10p per product = £7 a week ~ £28 a month
    20p per product = £14 a week ~ £56 a month
30p per product = £21 a week ~ £84 a month (or in other words one weeks shoping at the new price)

You already posted a similar enquiry on the phones board?
If her exchange is not Sky LLU'd then she can only get Sky Connect, which is £17. No point in taking Sky bb unless you are on a Sky LLU exchange and can get the cheaper rate. It's just a resold BT Wholesale connection.

ok ty. I dont understand this stuff at all but she is coming here later and will read this. They use a lot, downloading music, have 3 teenagers with ps somethings and wii somethings, so they used aol platinum. But 5 weeks later in the new house & still no internet, the kids are starting to plot mutiny..

ok i might be looking at something wrong but from what i can see AOL platinum only has a 10GB limit a month with 3 teenagers i am supprised this has been enough, however if so that will make things much easier when choosing someone else to go with, now although these are a little more expensive (compared to AOL's 10GB for £14.99 a month) they will generally give much better service and are worth the price in my mind

http://www.zen.co.uk/Broadband/athome.aspx note from 1st June they will be doubling their usage limits so the amount shown here will actually be double very soon so £10gb for £17.99 a month

    http://www.newnet.co.uk/products/broadband/home 12GB for £17.95 a month

    http://www.idnet.net/solutions/home/broadband/default-adsl.jsp 40GB (10 peak 30 off peak) for £17.99 a month

Definitely Sky. It has always been really good for me, not one issue. When I was with AOL nothing but problems and it takes over your PC

If 10GB is enough, then Plusnet Value is the obvious option on price.

Out of the two options I would go for Sky. They told me at my exchange I couldn't get FOC. I argued it and get it for £9.95 pm. Sure that isn't down to me being a shrewd negotiator.

If there is no LLU then go for the cheapest.
