Vodafone at it again

Hi there,

I have just spent 1hr 10mins on the phone to Vodafone over a similar case.

I left Vodafone in January 2010 at the end of my contract and went to O2.

I was told at the time that my balance was zero, so I took on the contract with O2 and thought that was the end of it.

I was wrong...

I received a letter from a debt recovery agency to say that I owed Vodafone £90ish.

I knew that this was incorrect, so I eventually got through to Vodafone and they informed me that my past bills have been overcharged because I have been getting charged for inclusive texts on my tariff.

So I said can you check the months previous, she said that I have been overcharged.

But then she came back onto the phone and said that actually my phone must have been set on roam, and that I was on Vodafone Ireland when I sent all my text messages instead of Vodafone UK.

I told her that this was impossible as I cant receive Vodafone Ireland signal where I am...I can barely get Vodafone UK.

So she said there is nothing that they can do, because as far as they can see I was in Ireland when I sent these texts.

I must have moved house for 5 months and not noticed.

So she is sending me out the itemised bills (free of Charge) they were trying to charge me £1.50 for each bill at the beginning of the conversation.

Any ideas what I can do, I know now that Vodafone has messed up and they are trying to blame my stupidity, of not knowing how to use a mobile phone properly.

It's possible if your phone is misconfigured you may be on Vodafone UK but your texts are routed via a foreign SMS centre. Extremly unlikely but possible.

Where are you, I guess northern ireland from your name. It's also possible, and more likely) if you cannot get Vodafone UK, its roaming to Vodafone Ireland and these costs are correct.

Phones tend to search for the strongest signal, so a strong VFIreland signal may be preferab le to the phone to a low strength VFUK dignal. Also if the phone is trying to use a 3G signal that may be weaker than a 2G signal and thats the cause of roaming.
