DVLA Organ Donation !!!! Up

Last week I bought a new tax disc for my car online at the DVLA website then a few days later my wife got a letter from the NHS saying she had been put on the organ donor register via DVLA??

Now here is where is gets more strange....

The car is registered in my name (Bob Smith).

I paid for the tax using my wifes debit card which has the name 'Jane Smith' on the card.

The NHS letter was sent to Jane Jones which is her old name.

So how does an online car tax application turn into my wife giving away her organs in her old name?

I did not see any checkbox regarding organ donation on the application. Even if it was there it should have been 'opt in', not untick to opt out.
Oh and should I have been the person getting the letter from NHS about this considering it was my tax application? Surely I cant submit my wifes organs without her knowledge and approval.

What exactly are they up to? How did they connect me to my wife in her old name without having way too much information about us at their disposal.

I seriously doubt that it was anything to do with your tax disc...

It was to do with the tax disc. Here is a quote from the NHS letter my wife received.

Our records show that you joined the ODR, or updated your registration, via the Driver and Vehicle licensing Agency (DVLA) when you completed a form related to your driving license. We are extremely grateful to you for taking this step to save lives and show your support for organ donation.

My wife does not drive or have a license. My tax disc application resulted in her donating organs ?????

    I shared your doubts, but...
Joining via the DVLA remains the most popular way for people to pledge the gift of life. More than six million people have signed up by filling in the tick-box section when applying for their driving licence, or when receiving their tax disc reminders.

From the NHS Blood and Transplant website. Linky

Is it a coincidence the tax thing and caused by this reticent mess up with the records. http://www.organdonation.nhs.uk/ukt/newsroom/statements_and_stances/statements_and_stances.jsp

Did she have a licence in the past?

Her not driving, or having a licence is not really the point. I'm all for organ donation, but they really are taking a liberty. I wonder, as she did not give her consent, if it is even legal.

She has just told me that she did have a provisional license like 10 years ago at a previous address.

I am up for donation too and regularly donate my rare 0- blood but now I am feeling like liberties are being taken.

Those articles refer to to cases where somebody has agreed to donate certain organs only. The OP's wife has not agreed to donate any organs, but has been added to the donor list simply because her husband used her debit card to buy a tax disc.

I think she did when she had the provisional licence, and it is just coincidence that them sorting this out (sending her a letter) has coincided with the tax being purchased. As the letter was sent in her maiden name I can see no way they would connect her via her husband buying tax.

Ah! I was rather hoping there was going going to be some conspiracy theory involved. :)
