Internet Access whilst Travelling

Could someone please advise me. I will be leaving the UK in a few weeks time to travel through France and Spain, ending up in Portugal. I wish to be able to access the internet whilst travelling and so require info on the cheapest way to do this. I have a wireless laptop. At the moment it seems I have three options; a) use my mobile as a modem - slow and expensive??b) satallite internet - v exp and c) trying to locate wireless hotspots. Would this be correct or are their any other options? Any advice would be gratefully received.

There's one other option but it might be costly depending on how much you use it.
Vodafone have mobile datacards for laptops - they have a special package aimed at businesspeople who travel and need web access on the move in Europe.
It's called Vodafone Data Travel but it doesn't come cheap. It's £95 a month on a 12 month contract. Before you fall over with the cost the package is actually pretty good beyond the initial cost.
First of all it's got a 1.2Mbs speed which for mobile broadband that's pretty good.
As well as unlimited download capacity in the UK, (1Gb fair usage cap) the product also has a 100Mb download cap abroad before charges kick in. Charged at £1 per Mb over limit in UK and £2 per Mb abroad over limit (or £8.75 per Mb other networks) which is good value. There is a £49.00 charge for the data card but apparently they're now offering these for free if you sign up.
Have a look here and see what you think.

Thanks for your tip Lee634. I think buying a 3g data card might be better for me as it gives me more flexibilty for accessing the internet. It seems to me that WiFi hotspots are a bit restrictive as they only transmit a short distance and there are lots of different networks. Please correct me if I am wrong.0
