Thanks - but I've just managed to crack transferring the avi file to DVD so really interested in improving the quality.

Does Windows dvd maker come with Vista by any chance?

    Edit: I have "Movie Maker"...?

Spoke a bit too soon. The file has copied onto DVD but some of the recording is not great - e.g. when there is a lot of 'information' on the screen, it seems to slow down and 'block' a bit.

    Any suggestions gratefully received!

Is the quality of the avi file good in the scenes that look blocky on DVD?

I use nerovision which comes with Nero 9, allows conversion of AVI to either 4.7gb or dual layer DVDs, also comes with nero cover designer if you have a lightscribe drive. Menu creation is also a doddle.

Not sure yet. Going to do a comparison between the avi file and the scenes on the DVD. My suspicion is that something has been lost in the transfer.

If that's the case then check which conversion 'preset' you used.

Thanks. I'm going to try it again and burn at a slightly lower quality in the hope that it doesn't pick up the blockiness and stuttering.

Looking at the original .avi file, it looks much better than what was recorded to the DVD.

if you have a ps3 then why not set you pc as a upnp server and watch the avi files over the network no need to convert or use disks

I do this now with an xbox
