Freeview Nightmare

Wonder if anyone can point me in the right direction here. I have just bought a new TV today and one of them indoor aerial things that says it's designed for Freeview. I cannot get one channel, just keeps saying no signal. Tried it with the main TV aerial and it worked fine, got lots of channels. But I want this TV in my bedroom and there is no aerial in there, any suggestions ?????

Freeview in a low signal area just will not work with indoor aerial, there is not "fix" except use outdoor one

You could try an aerial booster, but be prepared to be disappointed with result

Hi, the digital transmissions are a fraction of the power that the analogue ones are transmitted at. Most analogue transmitters are in the region of 500,000 watts per channel, but until the analogue transmitters are turned off the digital multiplexes only transmit at around 5,000 to 6,000 watts per group of 6 or so channels in the multiplex. The only way to ensure a good, stable signal will be to either instal a ' proper ' aerial on the roof or in the roof space.

But that will cost you a lot more than an external aerial!

You wont need a new aerial just distribute the current aerial to the new location. Shouldn't be more than 1-1 1/2 labour.

I had a similar problem and it was resolved when I bought this:

I know the reviews aren't great but all I can say is that I had a breaking up signal before I used it and a perfect signal with no further problems 6 months down the line.

You need a decent aerial for freeview unless you can see the transmitter from your window. For a normal install this should be around £75.

The way forward is freesat (or sky multiroom to do the connections free )and stick with sky after a year or buy a freesat hardrive decoder box at the year end(better than using the sky box as you have a tailored programming guide and free recording and program management)

I really cannot get my head around the idea of $ky doing something for nothing. Whatever, outlay they may make at the outset, 'free' installation, for example, they will recoup over a minimum subscription period, be it in the form of their HD tax, multiroom charge or just by subscriptions for channels.

It reminds me of a neighbour, who was quoted £1600 by a local firm for some double glazing to be done, but opted for Ever**t, who were £400 more expensive, but offered 'interest free' credit!

Of course sky arent doing it for free but when you think about it a years subscription with multiview is about 400 with 2 boxes and installation. And consider one is getting the service of extra channels,a warranty and the ability to record for a year additionally. They make their money if one stays on as a subscriber and that is if the subscriber feels hes getting a service that is worth paying for..
