Ace-FX: buyback travel money via post

Hi Everyone:

This is the 1st time posting and would appreciate people's thoughts/experiences.

After a recent trip to Japan I have a fair amount of japanese yen left over and wanted change them back to £s. The travel money max tool shows Ace-FX as offering the best rate but I wondered if anyone has sent money to a currency exchange by post, particularly Ace-FX (i don;t live near london). I've searched the forum (to the best of my abilities) and no-one seems to have mentioned them (good or bad) and there are no reviews when I have searched the web. I know the safest option would to be to just go to a local high street currency exchange but losing out on nearly £50 is not a happy thought.

Thanks in advance everyone!

I recently had a very mixed experience with Ace FX. Their rates are excellent, and they do offer to beat any other rates. I went in to the London Bridge branch with a mixture of currencies to sell, having found the cheapest rates elsewhere and printed them off (they don’t put their own rates online.) Well, as it happened the rate from another place was better (Thomas Exchange- Moroccan Dirhams) but the chap who served me refused to honour it. Stupidly I allowed myself to be persuaded that this rate must have changed during the day, and that the Ace FX rate was the best. Well, I checked when I got home, and found that actually the Thomas Exchange rate was still the same, and it had cost me 20 pounds. I phoned up Ace FX to speak to Paul who had served me. Let’s just say it took a lot of persuasion on my part and constant referral to the promise on their website to be offered a refund as I ‘was obviously that sort of person who won’t give up.’ When I went in the next day a more senior bloke apologised and gave me the 20 pounds without a murmur, telling me ‘they need all the business they can get.’

So sorry a long story…but I’m not totally sure about them. Japanese yen notes are valid forever. Unless you need the cash right now you might just want to hang on to them and take them on your next foreign trip and change them directly into euros or dollars or whatever when you arrive to save on the costs of one transaction. Or try and sell them to someone going to Japan, or save them to exchange in person whenever you next come to London.

Haven't heard of ACE-FX. If you are unsure and there isn't much of a difference, take a look at LinkFx or ThomasExchangeGlobal.
  • Hi,

I have used ACE FX for years, and they consistently offer the best rates for spare euro's, dollars, and swiss francs. Im on business so i travel a lot. I buy both online and in store(when im in the area :) ) and both are easy. i always try and order online before 5 as they usually deliver the next day no problem. I Personally find them a pleasure each time, but i suppose each man tells their own story.

    Thanks Chris
