Just had mine which failed on wipers and a rear number plate bulb. Silly I know. Broken side mirror glass was only an advisory and passed the retest.0

Get a friend or partner to help you do a bulb check (brake lights, headlamps, foglamps, indicators). You don't want to be failed on blown bulb which you could replace for about £1.
There other basics like check the tyres, tyre pressures, fluid levels etc. Takes about 10 minutes and could save you a lot of hassle.

Thanks for all the tips. Though in getting everything checked I managed to bend a wiper, and think I might have discovered a slow puncture. This is meant to be saving me money, doh!
Glad someone else has got some good advice from this thread as well

Well all the fiddling and filling up in the world is no use when 3 break pipes, the cat coverter and the axle are screwed....
Not quite sure what to do now! It's still at the garage 25 miles away. Wish I knew more about cars to know if its worth selling some of the parts or something.
Must try and see the positive side and enjoy my train rides to work grr

Whoa you shouldnt do that, if you resell its important to have all your MOTs to show accurate mileage which is a selling point and the garages dont need it.Rev counter being dicky will not fail MOT. I usually take the last MOT with me which they take off my hands, not sure if they actually need it though with it all being computerised these days.0
