I have an A & L Online 5 but that is an old account now. It pays currently 3.15% gross but as I said this will expire soon and is no longer available. The one which is available is the Online 7 may be worth giving them a look. I have found A & L to be quite efficient (unusual for Santander, sorry but they are rubbish and Abbey are just a joke) hope this helps.0

Anybody ever used Market Harborough, N&P, Melton Mowbray or N'castle BS's online savings accounts?
Aren't A&L a pain in the backside as regards opening documentaion and proof of income papaerwork etc?0 -
I also have the Tesco Internet Account. Opening the account was easy, everything went smoothly and the card reader arrived promptly (easy to use), I have never had no problems using this account.
Tesco Internet saver Account - Competitive rate of interest - Up to 2.75% Gross / AER (variable)
It has the added bonus of letting you deposit and withdraw to your linked account via faster payments. Maybe give it a go, you never know it might be straight forward. If you encounter any problems, then look elsewhere.Never let the perfume of the premium overpower the odour of the risk0 -

Definitely! I have 2 earlier issue easy access A & L accounts only holding token amounts but which I've maintained specifically to avoid ID hassles as an "existing customer". They're certainly active/accessible online still. So, I was expecting an easy ride when I applied to to open an Online Saver Issue 7 account last week. Yesterday I received the initial bumf which requires me to supply ID evidence even though I hold accounts with the bank. Not only that, but I have to send copies certified by appropriate worthies, not original documents which they insist are not acceptable at all.
I rang the Helpline to query this but they were immovable. Apparently they get Experian to do a credit check and if this is adverse in any way you have to go through the ID rigmarole all over again. In my case I presume the check failed because I'm an old-fashioned type who doesn't like credit so have no history. This is a change since I last opened an A & L account so maybe the Santander acquisition is to blame. I don't object to money laundering checks but some institutions seem to apply this policy in a purely stupid way.

Dont want to go into too much detail but my husband will have to go through further ID checks before he can open his account and is quite happy to do this rather than be a victim of ID theft!0

Northern Rock can RECEIVE faster payments but not yet make them.
"In order to ensure that the service runs smoothly and securely for our customers, we will be implementing the facility to send Faster Payments over the coming months.
Please visit this page regularly for updates."

I have just received a letter from Northern Rock. Among the changes it says it will be making "between 15 October and 20 November" will be enabling withdrawals by Faster Payments Service. There was no mention of any limits that may apply.0
