I've heard Tesco (internet saver) is a nightmare to set up but that Northern Rock's site with a less atrractive rate is user friendly if slightly insecure. Has anybody recently opened a savings account (purely) online? How long did it take to set up and get running?
Thanks

I can recommend Northern Rock - at 2.5% although not market leading their online banking is really user friendly and they have not slashed their rates for a while. They have got good online security and allow faster payments unlike Intelligent Finance.
I had my account set with within days and no problems so far.0 -
Hi,
Most of my accounts are managed online and I have had a lot of accounts managed online in the past.
I currently have AA instant access - Really easy to manage online and 2.8% at present so a good account. http://www.theaa.com/savings/savings_calculator.jsp
I have egg,, Good online and is 2.5% at present. http://new.egg.com/visitor/0,,3_94368--View_2081,00.html
Alliance and leicster at 2.75% is also cool - http://www.alliance-leicester.co.uk/savings/online-saver.aspx
Most of the above accounts took about a week to get up and running. Some less. I had a Tesco account in the past and waited well over a month.
Good luck!:rotfl:0 -

Isn't it true that it is far too easy to alter the payee details online with an acc with N Rock? Say someone gets into the account, gueses (or finds in public records) the answers to the far too standard questions like your first school etc. Then $s get shifted out of the acc to god knows where?
How was the N Rock set up process? What paperwork or proofs do you have to send to them?

You are assuming that people answer these "security" questions truthfully/accurately. You are probably required to do so for Date of Birth (since it might be a requirement for ISAs) but as you say, in these 'database state/online biography/social networking' days much of the standard info about you is easily accessible. The only 'secure' thing to do in such situations is to give answers that are 'secure' i.e. only known to you and the bank.0 -

Northern Rock can RECEIVE faster payments but not yet make them.
"In order to ensure that the service runs smoothly and securely for our customers, we will be implementing the facility to send Faster Payments over the coming months.
Please visit this page regularly for updates."

Think about using muliple Santander and A&L current accounts. Theses will bring you in 5% for 12 months with instant access provided you dont mind doing 5 mins work to get the best out of them0
