Monarch - Volcanic ash refund

Last month I had to re-book flights which were cancelled due to volcanic ash when we were stranded in the Canaries. Instructions on Monarch website said to re-book then claim the extra costs back.

I paid almost £700 extra for the flights and the same for accommodation. I have phoned several times, sent multiple emails with reply by dates and sent emails via their website as instructed and I've received nothing. This has been going on since 18th April. I don't really expect to get the accommodation costs back but I thought they would have refunded the flights by now.

Has anyone had any success in getting a refund from Monarch? If so, how?!

All the airlines are snowed under at the moment, it is not going to be a quick process. All claims have to be looked at manually and approved, and each airline will have thousands upon thousands of claims to get through due to the unprecedented scale of the disruption.

Its less than ideal, but for the moment its best just to sit it out.
  • hi everyone,

I have received a letter off Monarch regarding our claim form due to volcanic ash.I sent the claim form off beginning of Jan claiming for 5 days extra in spain, the amount claimed for was £306.

The return letter states unfortunately the claim cannot be accepted as they are not accepting any claims from 1st october,so we are out of time with our claim.

My partner has said he has read somewhere that EU law states you have 6 years to claim.

Do i accept Monarch's response or do i have grounds to fight it.

I would be very grateful for any advice.

    Jennijen,

is it just the additional expenses you are trying to claim back, or are you still waiting for the flight costs to be refunded too?
