Did she have vista before?

she had vista a while ago but I took it off and put xp because she wasnt used to vista and vista was running SLOW on it... when I installed xp it seemed to speed it up

diagnostics still failed.. its error 0146 according to the dell forums where other users had this problem .. the hd needs replacing

If you haven't wiped it, there should be a restore partition with vista on, you might want to backup that with disk imaging software if you don't have a vista disc.

If it's working currently, don't see the point in replacing it yet, unless the data on it is critical

The only things she wanted was her pics which I have managed to save because when it was playing up before I backed them up...

She only uses the laptop for the internet really, I think I will change the hd for her .. cheaper than buying a new laptop thanks for ur help
