Interesting opinions. After much debate, I bought a Bosch dishwasher last Sunday (delivered very efficiently and at the best price I could find, by the Co-Op on Tuesday). It washes far better than the Whirlpool it replaced and as well as the decade old Bosch I had in my previous house. It isn't as solidly built, but it has a two year warranty, so we'll have to see how it lasts.
As for Sony TVs, I bought an LCD one 18 months ago. It's flawless.
LG? They are one of the few companies on my 'do not buy' list (a distinction they share with Philips). I've had (expensive) LG monitors fail and other problems that have been hard, or impossible, to resolve.0 -

Agree with all of that.;)0 -
I have a Bosch can't remember when I bought it so it must have been a few years ago now.Sometimes I will do several washes in a day so it gets a lot of use. When my old machine packed up I just went straight to Costco and brought it home with me.It was cheaper from there than any other store and online . I was very pleased with the price and didn't have to wait for it to be delivered.0

i am quite heavily involved with all the major manufacturers at work, and have visited many of their premises here and abroad. lg dated electronics?? what?????
and philips, i agree with to a point. philips these days is largely a name, they make light and medical equipment, tv's etc that you see in the shops bearing the name philips, are very rarely philips. philips pcs for example are often made by nec computers, or advent, the own brand arm of currys/pc world.
lg are the most up to date electronics i have seen for ages. there load claims are completely valid, i have tried and tested it in ours many many times! infact, i have overloaded it before, with no problems.
and in an 7 hour shift at work today, and this is genuine, sold 0 bosch or lg washing machines, dealt with 3 faulty washing machines, 2 were indesit (nothing unusual there!, well, 2 is unusually low!!), and 1 was a bosch.
i looked through all the repairs i could today, with this thread in mind. chose 50 repairs at random nationally that we are carrying out, not one of them was lg, but they continue to be one of our best selling brands!
if the technology is dated then fine coz it works!
i agree miele are the absolute best build quality, but there technology is over 20 years old, and hasnt been developed properly at all in that time for washing machines, except for the build of the drum. and that is the word of a miele rep i was woking with today.0 -

Isn't that inherently contradictory? Personally, I don't give a hang about 'technology' in washing machines. How complicated does a washing machine need to be? What most people want is reliability.0 -
i agree, and for reliability in my 11 years experience of dealing with irate customers, buy miele if you want old school tank style build quality, or lg if you want almost the same quietly but with bigger drums and much quieter noise levels0

Sorry to put a spanner in the works. I have had my Miele washing machine for just over 5 years now and have now had my 4th engineer visit. I think I have just been unlucky. I brought from John Lewis at £799 with a 10 year guarantee and wish I had now brought a cheaper LG or Bosch. I am now trying to get them to replace my washing machine !!!!
Good luck with your decision.0 -

Hi
I think you have mis understood the person from Miele, they do not use 20 year old technology, the machines are tried and tested rigerously for at least 20 years of life.
If you look inside your LG you will find that the main circuit board resembles that of your old ZX81 Spectrum personal computer from the 80's where as the main circuit board for Miele machines, that they actually make them selves, resembles an up to date PC. The 'intelligence' of these main boards in the LG and Miele are worlds apart.
I am not picking on LG but these claims of larger capacities from all but Miele are completely misleading as yes you might be able to fit this amount in the drum but the wash quality reduces dramatically at these large loads as the fabric can't move around properly. Miele WILL NOT compromise on wash quality for the sake of a large load capacity claim. If Miele claim 8kg load then you can be sure it will wash 8kg as well as it will 5kg.

Hi
I am sorry to hear of your problems with your Miele washing machine. Unfortunately even with Miele there is the odd 'rogue' machine. After all if they never went wrong then Miele wouldn't need their 120 engineers in the UK.
Who are you trying to get to replace your machine - Miele customer services? I am sure if you do manage to get it sorted out with having a new Miele you will be fine. Please send me a PM if you would like some extra help.
