Bosch washing machines - any good?
Comments
-
After five and a a half years of use, my Indesit washing machine.
Not bad use from a machine really, I would be happy with that.:j
I have worked on various washing machines in the past, sourcing the parts (the right ones), time it takes to pull apart and get the said part out and the other in, you can bet something else will go wrong.
Most machines will give you the same five half years service, not bad when you consider how much work they have to do in that time.
Look at spin speed (dryer wash) and A ratings. Even a Bosch eight years old that's still working fine, will be dated and not so efficient, especially in hard water areas.

If you're thinking of a Miele, really scour the internet for deals - there's one site (sorry, can't remember which one) that gives discount and extended warranty on anything that's come up as a 'Which' Best Buy.
Thanks for the info, much appreciated. I found the washerhelp site very useful and informative. I'll have a look around for the extended warranty site, from some of the forums that I read, you can extend the warranty of a Miele up to 10 years, that's pretty good, but the initial outlay is expensive at around £600+ for a basic model. I've also discovered that the Miele's have a metal drum housing/casing and not plastic like other manufacturers.I've had a Bosh washing machine for around 10 years and it has been absolutely faultless. It's probably been one of the best domestic appliance purchases I've ever made,
However, I keep hearing that the current Bosch range isn't as well made, unless you are willing to spend a lot of money on one of their up-market models and, looking at them, I can see why people say that.
At that upper price-level, however, you're starting to get into Miele territory, so I think, when the Bosch eventually fails, I'll be going for the cheapest Miele I can find.
I was also under the impression that this is the case: more expensive models having better quality but the following article mentions that this isn't necessarily the case:

"If you paid an extra £50 or £100 for a more expensive model, will you get a better washing machine? No. You'll get a faster spin, more options, and maybe a bigger drum, but the build quality of your washing machine will be the same."0 -
I've had my Bosch wm nearly 12 years now and never had any problems. One major advantage of it is that it's warm fill (from the combi boiler), which saves on electricity. Need a new dishwasher right now and will probably go with Bosch for that too.0

I'm agonising over that very choice this weekend, too, but my current inclination is a Miele. I've heard that the latest lower rice Bosh machines aren't what they once were.0 -

I think we may be at cross purposes here. What I meant was that buying into the Miele range at a lower price gets you, essentially, a similar build quality. I may have misread the various articles, but my impression is that this isn't the case with Bosch, where cheaper models can be less well made than the more expensive ones.
Is anyone is a position to confirm this?0 -

Nope - apparently they are from the Electrolux group. It's in the 'who makes what?' article on the site referred to earlier in a thread about dishwashers, I believe.
Just looked it up. Here's the link http://www.ukwhitegoods.co.uk/modules.php?name=Content&pa=showpage&pid=170 -
I went ahead and bought a Bosch today after spending hours researching different brands, features, warranty, prices and managed to get a good price on the Co-Op electrical site as well as £20 off (online promotional voucher). From what I have read, I think a Miele would probably be the best choice in terms of reliability and quality. Unfortunately I don't have the money for a Miele at the moment, maybe I'll get a Miele when the new Bosch gives up
Thanks to everyone that contributed to the thread. :T0 -
i'm amazed that nobody has mentioned lg. their direct drive technology is tried and tested, silent, less vibration, big drums and bosch price territory. i have a bosch dishwasher that is awful, wouldnt touch another. there washing machines went downhill 3 years ago, bit like sony tv's, they are trading on an old reputation that is not reflected in the current products0

Wouldn't touch an LG their electronics are very dated technology and their large load claims are pure fantasy.0
