I have had fitflops for the past two summers - in fact I like them so much that I bought the fitflop boots last winter and they are the most comfy boots that I've ever worn.

I don't know if they tone - maybe a bit - but they are so comfy, I never have them off my feet. I have never experienced the blisters etc that others mention, but I've only had the basic ones with the fabric webbing straps, not the leather ones, if that makes a difference.

One thing I will say is that the wobble board in the sole doesn't last forever. I bought new ones last spring just because the previous year's ones were looking a bit tatty, but still prefectly wearable. I was amazed at how noticeable the 'wobble' was in the new ones compared to the old ones.

I have a bad back and bad knees, and a balance problem so I was concerned that they might not be right for me, but in fact they have helped my posture and are amazingly comfortable. I'll be getting another pair this year.

EDIT they size up big, so I buy a size smaller than normal.

The Skechers ones I have are flipflops btw. They are called shape ups. The trainer types are called tone ups. I got mine last year from Littlewoods and used a discount code so they were only about £20 delivered. I think they still do them.

ETA. Sorry, the flip flops are tone ups. The trainers are shape ups!

Hi Ladyhawk, I have fitflops, the flipflop type, and wore them all last summer, and round the house since then. I find these really comfy, and are lasting well.
I cant say the thighs look any more toned, but my hubby says my bum looks amazing;)

I have the Sketchers Shape Ups trainers and on the days where I can I walk to work and back in them (20mins each way). I find they are really comfy, once you get used to the shape and the way your are meant to walk in them you can really get into a good rhythm and it's really easy to walk. When I wear them I can definately feel a difference, my legs feel like they have had a workout and feel a bit more toned.

There are only 2 things I don't like about them. First is that you can't really walk over uneven ground in them, needs to be a smoothish surface (pavements/grass etc). And the second one is that they make me too tall!! I'm 6ft as it is so I'm knocking on 6'3" in them!

A couple of people have mentioned the Avon ones - but I have had a look on their website and can't see them. Can anyone point me in the right direction? Also the MBT websites all look rather dodgy... where did you get yours from?

I got mine from SweatyBetty but they are also available in John Lewis/bigger branches of Waitrose (some have clothes and sportsware in).

They do have a website but I'd say try them on first- there are certain types which "grip" the ankle and this type caused me very painful blisters- so not worth it, it took me about 3 years of trying to get used to them by wearing them for about 6 weeks (with literally 4 pairs of socks on or 2 pairs of padded socks on) to realise these were never going to 'wear in' and give up the ghost. If I had just thought about how uncomfortable they were on my heel the first time I wore them I'd have not wasted the £70 they cost me (in the sale).

I have a pair of Sketchers Shape-ups (got them from amazon.co.uk) and find them super comfy. I really got them to help with my plantar fasciitis, and the pain in my heel was reduced immediately. It took a few weeks for it to subside completely.

Regarding toning up the legs, I haven't noticed anything special as I already have quite strong, muscular legs. However, the trainers have definitely made it easier for me to walk, so I do it much more often than in the past. Which, for an unfit woman, is a result.

Hope no one minds me bumping and talking about a different pair of 'toning' flip floppers, but I didn't want to start a new thread as it's not really a new 'bargain buy'. BuyCosmetics have 'TrimSoles' at £19.95 - http://www.buycosmetics.com/trimsole-footwear/10556-classic-vibrant-red.aspx (Or you can buy 3 pairs for about £50.) P&P is £1.95 and can't see any codes. Has anyone tried TrimSoles and can say whether they work/are comfy? I've not come across any reviews for them but they definitely look quite nice.

They look pretty much the same a fitflops in MO, the only thing I don't like is the white sole, it's not going to stay white if you do lots of walking in them, and I wanted to be able to wear mine everyday to walk to work and at work, so white soles wouldn't be appropriate, to me they look more like a poolside/holiday item, so yeah they are more than half the price of Fitflops but if you can't wear them everywhere then not really a money saving IMO.

I hadn't thought about the dirtying of the white soles - good point! (Especially with our rainy weather). I just can't get past the fact that fitflops are so expensive - a bit of a body-image marketing ploy! Perhaps worth it if they're comfy though.. :)

Last year I bought some black sequinned toe-posts for around £20 because I liked the look of them. They were called Carou and I bought them in the Pavers outlet shop.

Within days people were saying "I like your Fitflops" :rotfl:and I had no idea what they were talking about!! After googling I discovered Fitflops and these are identical to Fitflops Electra but about half the price.

I wore them all summer and LOVED them and am sure they toned my legs.
I went back a few weeks ago to buy a pair in a different colour & they still stock them but my size was out of stock.

I therefore went to Skechers and bought a pair of theirs in brown suede and while they are very comfy they are also twice the price and not quite such a good fit as the Pavers ones.
