You may not have financially contributed, but bringing up his child (and for a lot of that time, it appears, with no support from him, financial or otherwise) is as valid a contribution to a family unit as money is.
I'd be very seriously thinking about what you are getting into, not only for your own sake, but for your child's as well.

But is it not prudent to make sure your back is covered? No one has a crystal ball as to what will happen in the future.
Unfortunately, it's a sad fact of life that a large proportion of marriages fail these days. Most of these newlyweds would have gone in with their eyes open fully prepared for a life long commitment......life doesn't also turn out the way we plan.
Now may the only chance Liz has to ensure that her future is secure should anything happen. Once she signs away her rights to her current equity (and it sounds like half of it is her equity) she may never have the chance to get it back for her, or her daughter........just my thoughts

Sorting out the finances doesn't mean you are worried about a relationship failing.
Sorting out what would happen to finances in the event of a split often benefits the relationship by preventing one partner from feeling financially dependant which can create an inequality destructive to the relationship. If the partners are equal and secure of this they can concentrate on loving and supporting each other without any nasty little niggling doubts (and what relationship doesn't have the odd 'bad patch'?) chipping away at their trust in each other.
If the OPs partner doesn't want to secure to her legally what's rightfully hers - better she finds out now in my opinion.0 -
Ok, so after many discussions with my partner, we came to an agreement that he would give me a lump sum if anything ever happenned, plus 50% of the profit from the sale.

therefore £116k minus his orginal £80k, you have £36k left, then split that 50-50, to me that's fair.
