Hi,
A quick but slightly urgent question.
Can I drive my (new to me) car with no "actual" tax disk?
I bought the car yesterday (Fri).
I bought fully comp insurance yeasterday.
I have the V5C/"2 document.
I can buy the tax disk online today.
Can I then drive the car on the road.
I dont have the insurance paper in my hands yet (sent first class yest).
Thanks in advance

In theory yes you can, if the police search you're car, you should show up on the anpr database, I would carry any print outs from the dvla and if you ahve anything from your insurers.
The only thing is, and someone else might correct me if I'm wrong, I believe there is a fine possible for not displaying your road tax. If you didn't have insurance paperwork you get 7 days to go to the police station anyway. Might want to visit your local bobby's to double check! Better that than getting a fine for nothing really. Thanks to all the competition posters.0 -

I ordered my tax disc online but it has not yet arrived, is it against the law to drive/park my vehicle on the public highway whilst I wait for the disc to arrive?
Since 1 September 2008, you can legally drive or keep your vehicle on the road up to five days from the end of the month without displaying a valid tax disc provided you have made your application online or by telephone before your current vehicle tax/SORN expires.

Only registered keepers can tax online, which is why it wouldn't let you.

also, insurance details must have been entered on the database by the insurer.
Thus, if insurance is obtained or renewed a short while before attempting to buy VED online, usually DVLA will refuse online taxing.....I have this issue every year with one of my cars......so end up visiting the post office...which helps keep it open....No, I don't think all other drivers are idiots......but some are determined to change my mind.......0 -

Not any more. If they suspect you have no insurance they can seize the car now. That came in a couple of years ago.0 -
Brilliant idea that take the cars off the road, They need to be stricter when collecting them back though, They should insist on the insurance being in the drivers/owners name to be able to collect it.
Also watch the wording on the car tax. If you taxed it online 5 days before the old one ran out, Which you wouldnt have it you just purchased the car & may not have been taxed for a while.Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0 -

Yeah but a mate of a mate with a traders policy can collect it, Seen one of the cop shows midlands motorway, stopped a car no insurance, impounded it, Driver got a friend to recover the vehicle and was caught again on the same day and same stretch of motorway by the same cops. They couldnt believe it.Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0
