Dyson re-wiring

Please can anyone help??
My old dyson (DC 01) has obviously got a loose electrical connection, as it stops working if the cable lies in a certain way.
I think this is somewhere near where the cable enters the main body of the cleaner ( i've read that this is a common prob with the old dysons).
Does anyone know where i can info on how to repair this myself. ( total novice with electrics, but do have a screwdriver). I'm thinking that i'd like to just repair the cable/re-connect it, and hoping that i don't have to buy a whole new cable.
Thanks very much in anticipation.

The main cable will most probably have a broken core near the entry point to the cleaner. There should be a bend restrictor (a tapered plastic sleeve) at this point to prevent this happening.
It can be repaired by disconnecting the cable from the cleaner, cutting the damaged section out and re-connecting it. The cable will obviously end up shorter but it won't cost anything to do.
Please get someone competent to do it!0 -
thanks..yes..there is a restrictor where the cable enters the main body.
However, i can't see how to get to the end of the cable, as it's all housed within a plastic box and doesn't seem to have any screw fixings that i can undo, to get to it.
do you have any ideas.
many many thanks0 -
Mmmmm....
This could be tricky. I don't have the same machine so I can't be sure. It may have been manufactured this way to keep up the sales of replacement parts.
How about calling in to your local repair shop and asking for the relevant part. They are usually quite helpful and may well provide the answer. If you do need to replace the box they will at least give you an idea of the cost.
Sorry I can't be anymore specific.0 -
hi
this has happened to 3 dysons i know of - obviously a fault. My father i law had to cut the plastic to get into the cord. He then rejoined the cord/wire and we have a tie wrap around the cord to stop it getting pulled in the future. He said it wasnt difficult once you got inside the casing.
Good luck

THanks for all your help, guys and gals.
On closer inspection, i've found a screw fixing under the bin housing, but looks like its a strange shape..looks like a star of david!
I'm gonna try and undo it with a phillips, but may have to try and get the proper type of screwdriver to get the thing undone.
In the meantime...the doghairs are turning my pink carpet into white!0 -
I"ve finally got into the back of the switch on my dyson and can see where the cable has been squashed so hard, that it's damaged.
So i've stripped back the to good wires and ready to re-connect.
Only problem now is: how do i connect the wire to the spade connectors on the switch ( which are shrouded in seemingly inpenetrable little plastic boxes).
Any more ideas would be very gratefully received.
thanks..thanks..thanks!!0 -

I"m gonna try and buy a new spade connector tomorrow, as i can't 'uncrimp' the existing one..hands are in shreds!!
I called customer services ( thanks for the numbers, Derrick)..they were v.v.v helpful and can supply a new cable plus fitting for 39 squid, which, i spose, if i can't fix it myself, is cheaper than buying a new dyson.
thanks for everyone's help. ; You're such a fab bunch on here.0 -
