You only need to install the driver. Logitech has all sorts of other cr*p it tries to install (The main one being 'logitech desktop messenger'), which REALLY isnt needed

That said, xps inbuilt drivers might work anyways. Have you tried to simply use it?

If it's stopping on the download then it's nothing to do with Logitech, as you haven't started the installation procedure. Something else is causing it to hang.
How much free disk space do you have? C drive, right click, Properties.
Try downloading something else to see if there is a problem generally with downloading.
If you have another PC, download to that, copy it onto a flash drive and install from that.
Sorry, macman, I meant installation :o
    Disk space
    Used space 13.0 GB
    Free space 24.1 GB
    So I assume not that.
Downloading and installing not been a problem with anything else.

Maybe the driver corrupted during download - download a fresh copy and try again. Also, unplug the webcam until told to connect it during the installation process or when it has finished.

Many thanks to you all for taking the time to help.

I tried once more and this time (fingers crossed) it worked :T

I have no idea what, if anything, was different, but so far so good.

Glad you got it sorted. Occassionaly installations fail - maybe Windows was using some of the files the driver was trying to update - who knows?! Usually works after restart and trying again

    That's it - I give up.
Sorry to have wasted your time.

Now realised that even with the software (apparently ) installed there was no operating light on top of the webcam.
So I have found the receipt and the whole thing is going back to the shop.

If I can impose further on your goodwill?
Do I go for a replacement logitech or is there a better alternative?

That's a shame, is it showing up in Device Manager and have you restarted your PC since you installed it? Is it plugged into a USB 2 port on the back of the PC? Can you try it on another PC or laptop?

Also, the light probably only comes on when the webcam is in use - have you tried going into Windows Live Messenger or whatever you're using and seeing if it picks up the Webcam? You might have to enable it.

Otherwise, Logitech are among the best so you might have been unlucky and picked up a faulty one so I'd get the same or a different model from Logitech, or a Microsoft one.

    Problem solved or mystery deepens.

Apologies if this turns into a saga

I was having problems downloading music to an MP3 player a few weeks ago. Just before I took it back I tried disconnecting the USB2 CardBus adapter and connecting via the original USB1 - I got the warning message that it would not work at maximum efficiency, but it then proceeded to work perfectly.

So I got a replacement USB2 CardBus. Anyway I just realised that I had never tried the MP3 in the new unit so I did - still problems.

So, I disconnected it and plugged the webcam into the original USB1 port - usual warning about performance - and it worked just fine.

So it looks as if my problem is not the webcam or the USB2 CardBus but (I assume) whatever the CardBus connects to inside the laptop. Which leaves me with two USB1 ports - one that my mouse is connected to and one for anything else I need to connect.

Does your laptop meet the minimum specs?

Many USB devices need to connect directly into the USB port, not via a hub. It may not be able to draw enough power.

Buy a 5 port USB unit that fits into the computer. I bought one of ebay last week for a few quid
