McDonalds pay?

Just wondering what the pay is like at McDonalds for a bog standard crew member?
Been looking at their website and it says the starting rate for "over 22s" is NMW. Anyone know if it stays at NMW or if it creeps up, and if so, how far??
Nearest restaurant is 45 miles from me, so just wondering if it would cost more to get there than what i would earn full-time?
I currently clean toilets for a living, so McDs is a step up :rotfl:

I stopped working there in 2004 so things may have changed but back then there were regular (small) pay increases and the chance for people who stuck it out and were good at the job to progress through training positions and the varying levels of manager. Competition for lower management roles in store wasn't too tough but it was a bit harder to break out of the actual restaurants into higher management.0

You're welcome. Just to add, there were always plenty of shifts available and the chance to stay for extra hours at the end of a shift. If you have the time, you could probably work as many hours as you could fit in!
It is tiring though, you're on your feet the whole time, often in a hot kitchen. Be prepared for a few burns and to get abuse from customers that is out of all proportion to the importance of the service you're providing!
While a lot of people are funny about 'mcjobs', I've found a lot of employers later were quite pleased to see it on a CV, especially for a decent spell of time as there are a lot of transferrable skills and it shows you can grit your teeth and get on with it! In a lot of ways its the hardest I've ever worked!0 -
I can't see it being worth a 90 mile round trip:
- you won't be on much more than min wage so transport costs will take up a huge chunk of your earnings
- to get enough hours in catering or retail and certainly to progress you need to be flexible. One day they might want you to do a 3 hour breakfast shift. Another day a 13 hour late shift. There might also be shifts at short notice. With a 90 mile round trip you can't be so flexible and you may be too tired to safely travel that distance if going by car.0 -
I'd not work for em purely because I heard they ban younger employee's (who don't yet know their rights) from bringing their own food to work, don't allow them to leave the premises and therefore they're forced to spend their own wages on McD's food everyday for lunch.
I find this too oppressive!“I may not agree with you, but I will defend to the death your right to make an a** of yourself.”

That wasn't the case when I was an employee, you could bring your own food, go out to buy something else, or have free McDs food (not unlimited obviously!). Some of them are franchises though so may have different rules.0 -

Yes I was always told that employees get free food on their lunch breaks.0 -
Since when did McD start selling anything that can be classed as food?Yes I was always told that employees get free food on their lunch breaks.Approach her; adore her. Behold her; worship her. Caress her; indulge her. Kiss her; pleasure her. Kneel to her; lavish her. Assert to her; let her guide you. Obey her as you know how; Surrender is so wonderful! For Caroline my Goddess.0 -
I started working at mcds about 2 weeks ago its not as bad as people say its basic wage what goes up twice a year i think they said. You get discount on meals when not at work and for other shops aswell (e.g asda curries o2 etc there's quite a few to list). You get a free meal when working.
