When I was based in Germany in the late 80's,if we took our UK TV to Germany,we had to get a 'chip' or something fitted to it in order for it to work.0

Mains supply is okay, you just change the plug. They thought that at the "Choose country" option during the setup, if your choice was France the tv would be okay !!!
LCD tvs are more expensive in France, euro rate isn't too good at the moment
You must be joking the Euro against the UK Pound is very good at the moment, about 1.15 Euro's to the UK Pound.
It was as high as 1.62 at one time.
Just buy a TV in France, no worries about warranty or if it will work properly, I suspect that the Freeview Tuner will be slightly different to the French Digital system anyway.0 -
I think it might be best or them to buy a tv in France, I remembe the euro at 1.5 to the pound, hence 1.15 to the pound is low for me and for them......worth about 25% less than 6 years ago !!
Thanks for all the advice0 -
Nah, just take it with you. The voltage is ok, and that's the main thing. If when you get there you find you can't receive a signal, then just buy a French "freeview" box and hook it up via Scart, switched to RGB. It can still play DVD's as well. It'll be fine!Try saying "I have under-a-pound in my wallet" and listen to people react!0

Ah, yes. That would be the 6MHz oscillator needed to be changed to 5.5MHz. This was needed if you wanted to hear anything other than hiss. but the picture would still be ok.Try saying "I have under-a-pound in my wallet" and listen to people react!0 -
Wow, I am now undecided.
I will try and find one in store and see if they have a support website or phone number to see if it will accept the French signal.....0 -
You can buy TVs at rock bottom prices in France in the out of town Hypermarkets, with the benefit of a local guarantee and service.0

If you want to buy a set-top box, try Darty (same group as Comet)
http://www.darty.com/nav/achat/hifi_video/tnt/decodeur_tnt/index.html
or Pixmania (part of Dixons/Currys)
http://www.pixmania.com/tnt-et-satellite/frfr3_269_pm.html
You can also pick up boxes in the out-of-town D.I.Y "Brico..." stores but they won't know much about the product.
By the way, most British living in France seem to think that the French customer service is appalling, but I've been told that Darty are picking up a more British approach to marketing and service.0 -

Or a 26" TV with 2 year warranty.

Hi, I noticed that the tv is manufactured in Slovakia so is probably made by UMC ( Universal Media Corporation. ) if you want to check out the website.0
