Hi I need to take a tv to the south of France for a friend who has moved there. They have found this Emotion 26 with built in Freeview and DVD.
Emotion 26 details here
Will this TV work in southern France?
I think when I set up my TV is gave you a chice of countries ???
They have a normal French arial, but are not on digital arial or sk box yet.
Don't want to fill the car up if it doesn't work there cos I will then have to bring it back.
Thanks for any replies.

Is that TV compatible with SECAM L which is the standard used in France? UK TV is broadcast in PAL I. Blue text on this forum usually signifies hyperlinks, so click on them!..:wall:0

Doesn't say on the sainsbury website.....
I will look at the emotion site
Thanks0 -
Can't find a makers website !!!0

You wont find SECAM TV s for sale in the UK why would you?
Buy a set from a Supermarket when you get to France.
If you have some idea that you can receive UK Freeview in France , you can't.
I seem to recall that the mains supply in France is 110volts.That gum you like is coming back in style.0 -
Mains supply is okay, you just change the plug. They thought that at the "Choose country" option during the setup, if your choice was France the tv would be okay !!!
LCD tvs are more expensive in France, euro rate isn't too good at the moment0 -
SECAM was the system used on the old analogue broadcasts which are being switched off in France like they are in Britain. Normandy is now all digital.
The French equivalent of Freeview is called TNT, T!l!vision Num!rique Terrestre, which is a DVB-T system (Digital Video Broadcasting-Terrestrial) like Freeview, so I think your TV should still work in France.
By the way, a lot of TV's that were sold in the UK in the 1990's were capable of viewing SECAM along with the several varieties of PAL used in Europe - the manufacturers had realised it was a lot cheaper to manufacture a single model for all Europe which could be localised for a particular country by using software instead of physical components.0 -
Exegnomad
I was hoping this was the case.
I have checked on other sites (expats etc) and people are saying it will not work unless it can take Secam, althouh a lot of posts are from 2005.
I can't find out if thier tv (Emotion) accepts this signal. Long way to bring it back for an exchange.
Don't suppose anyone knows who makes Emotion tvs ?0 -
What we have forgotten, of course, is whether you will be able to pick up the broadcast signal !
Like in Britain, but even worse because of the size of the country, there are "white zones" where reception isn't possible.
Check your area on
http://www.tvnt.net/couverture-tnt-335.html (fill in the address in the box to the left of the red box TntTest, overtype the Henri Peuzin bit)
The French government doesn't think it is worth building relay transmitters where there is sparse population, expects people to get one of the three satellite systems.0 -
They can get French tv through an ordinary arial and on thier old French bought tv, they just fancied a new flat screen larger tv and the emotion one looked good value..
tested on the site above and signal is 3/50 -
I seem to recall that the mains supply in France is 110volts.
It's 230V in France, 110V is the USA.
Can't they buy a cheap one from a physical store e.g. Darty or one of the many online retailers e.g. CDiscount, Top Achat, Rue du Commerce, Pixmania etc.? That way they will have one that works in the French market.
As others have said though, multi PAL/SECAM sets have been the norm for a long time.0
