I purchased a trampoline from Homebase at the end of the Summer last year. I went to construct it the other day and they hadn't included enough springs in the box. I contacted the manufacturer (Plum Products) to explain this and asked them to send me the missing springs, however, they won't send me the springs unless I have proof of the purchase (either the receipt or a bank/credit card statement). I can't find the receipt, all I have is the warranty card.
I haven't tried to return it to Homebase because they aren't selling it this year (I think it may have been an end of line product).
Does anyone have any advice as to what I should do - Plum Products want a ridiculous amount of money for the springs which I am missing!
Thanks

With no proof of purchase, you won't get anywhere. If you paid by card, a statement showing the transaction should be enough proof and may give enough info for home base to search their system and print out a new receipt (but don't count on that last part).
Technically your contract is with the retailer, but as you've had the goods for nearly a year, it'd be up to you to prove that the good weren't suitable at time of purchase.
If you paid by cash and have lost the receipt though, the only option is to cough up for the missing parts, or try a hardware store and hope that they have the right parts for sale.0 -
I am in a similar sittuation I bought 5 packs of laminate flooring end of Dec 09 which were paid for on B&Q giftcard ( I still have this) flooring laid Jan 2010 but the veneer has lifted in one area and broken away, I contacted B&Q who have been fine and contacted the manufacter who will do nothing without a receipt? I have searched and searched for this to no avail, the flooring is gauranteed for 15 years and is supposed to be moisture resistant and suitable for bathrooms ( it is in my dinning are of the kitchen) I only use a dry mop to clean it, B&Q say they dont keep records for longer than 3 months any advice or are people meant to keep receipts for 15 years?0

...are people meant to keep receipts for 15 years?
It really is a good idea to keep a receipt for the duration of any warranty. Most manufacturer's warranties ask for proof of purchase, and by far the most straight forward is the receipt.
You only need to keep a receipt for 15 years if the manufacturer's warranty is for 15 years.0 -

) and my receipts are all in my fireproof safe where yes I plan to keep them for about 20 years as thats how long my floor is warrantied for
Without a receipt I can't see you getting anywhere unfortunately0 -
I think you'll find that you only have to prove the store sold the goods.
Your issues are with the retailer, the retailer can choose to take the matter up with the manufacturer, but that's nothing to do with you.
the obvious question is 'why didn't you check you had all the bits when you brought it?!?!?!0 -
Thanks for your advice and comments.
It's a fair point about checking - obviously I wish I had now! and I will always check in the future.
What about if it had been a present - you wouldn't have the receipt then? Also, quite a few people buy presents for people well in advance and I guess the same thing could happen because you wouldn't open the box to check that everything was there before you gave it to someone. Just another thought I had
Thanks again0 -

Many manufacturers stick a warranty certificate in the box/package which you send to them with a POP and they keep hold of your details for the duration. If not, then yes, keeping proof of purchase for that length of time is a smart idea. Thanks for your advice and comments.

With presents, companies have their own discretion as to what they will cover with their warranty. Legally, whether it's a present or not, the contract is between the purchaser and the seller. If the buyer or recipient cannot provide proof of purchase, then the seller doesn't have to do a thing.0 -

Hi,
You don't NEED a receipt- as long as you paid by debit/credit card, you can prove use the bank statement. I bought something from Argos, wanted to return it but lost the receipt, i showed them my statement with the purchase details, and refunded it.0 -
