A long spin won't do it. Get on the brakes as hard as you can (safely) a few times and that should clear it up (if it is rust).

My car failed its mot because of this but a quick buff sorted them out. It had been sitting a few months though.

Rear brakes are more likely to suffer from the problem.

Now if it was screeching I would be more worried.

I know someone else advised against them, however kwik fit will check them for free,(on the website) and give a printed report, which you could take back to the garage where you bought the car. I would also nip out and have a look yourself while kwikfit have the wheels off.
Might be advisable if your usual garage says there is a problem- second opinion and all that, more ammo.

    Calm down,
I did say it could be worth it if his/her usual garage says there is a problem, as a second opinion with a written report to take back to the vendor. Also an opportunity to have a peek yourself while its up.

I did not say, Kwik fit are really good, they will find the problem, they know their stuff.

But you posted a suggestion to take the car to crapfit, which is very poor advice in the light of the experience of the vast majority who post on here.

That makes you fair game in my view;)

    I wouldn't value quickcrap as a 22nd let alone 2nd opinion. :rotfl:

You may be happy for KwikFit to tamper with your wheel nuts, I would not let them anywhere near mine.

My car doesnt go out to play very often. After a couple of weeks in the garage, i get the scrapey sound too due to a low level build up of surface rust on the disks. As soon as you apply the boots, the disc pads rub on it and it reverberates and sounds a lot louder than it is.

Agree. My car hardly gets usd and my brakes my the same sound as well - like a tatty old minicab's. A few hard applications of the brake (watch out for any cars behind first) should help to grind some of the surface rust off.

Good you've got to the bottom of it. Also extremely lucky you were at the garage when it wouldn't start!
