To me going green means reducing your usage rather than who your supplier is and which tariff your on.
Plus, reducing your usage means you pay less anyway.0 -
Oh Pleeeeassse. Just tune into sanity FM...
If people stopped having Children then where is the next generation of tax payers going to come from?. Is swampy going to bring them from cloud cuckoo land on his bike?
I thought it was a stork?
I was just remarking on the pay a nominal sum to avoid actually doing something about it culture. Barclays and Natwest would much rather pay £100 compensation to customers when they make an admin error than hire and train decent staff. The Americans would much rather pay a carbon credit charge than simply not drive SUVs.
The pay somebody else not to have babies idea is just trying to point out the absurdity of carbon credit schemes.
Nature has population control well in hand: Disease, natural disasters, food, water and finally air. When shortages appear, people will kill each other for free, no need for my £30.0 -
i do feel quite strongly about the environment and doing our bit... how can I convince him it won't add too much to the bill? I want to go with OVO on the 100% green plan, and at the minute we are on southern electric standard online e7 ?
You've probably come to the wrong site if you want to pay more than you otherwise need. This site is about saving money.
So let's see how we can try and meet both wants
How about going with the cheapest supplier and donating the difference to whatever 'save the planet' charity you prefer? That way, you won't be paying 5% VAT on the donation, and what's more if you donate using gift aid, the charity will be able to reclaim the basic rate tax paid on that donation, meaning even more money for them"Now to trolling as a concept. .... Personally, I've always found it a little sad that people choose to spend such a large proportion of their lives in this way but they do, and we have to deal with it." - MSE Forum Manager 6th July 20100 -
Or give it to me. I am gradually putting in:
rain water butt, connecting (pump) to loft cistern for flushing toilets.
For your money, I will send pictures of the pipes, and each of the toilets will write to you for Christmas telling you the worthwhile ecological life they now live, thanks to your generous donation.
As we renovate across the house, more and more toilets will be hooked up.0 -

Wether you believe the energy companies actually do that or not is a different matter..
and on the Coldest day of the year when Windy Miller's Turbine is not turning, do they sit with the lights off?

The only downside is that "the country" will be paying for it in taxes.
The govt made the power companies adopt the FIT and the money paid to me, and you, and the other renewable owners comes from the power companies directly and not through taxes.
Yes though, people will end up paying very slightly higher electric bills if they don't go this route. Most electric used in UK is used by industry, so they'll end up paying for most of the cost, indirectly obviously everyone will pay for this (including solar owners)
Interestingly, the income is tax free - for now...0 -

No, I would imagine they would use the green electricity from other resources instead.
Wind turbines arent the only source of green electricity or didnt you realise that?
Anyway, you obviously didnt read my post properly, the electricity will stay on, people on green tariffs arent wired to the nearest wind turbine.Missing Tesco R&R since Feb '07 :A & now a "Tesco veteran" apparently!0
