HD Options for World Cup

I have had a HD ready TV for a couple of years now and would like to get a box to watch the World Cup in HD.

Freeview+ boxes now seem to be as good as good as Sky+ boxes so you don't have to pay Sky subscriptions if you don't want their movies or sport (the world cup is not on Sky)

However there doesn't seem to be any product comparable to Sky+ HD boxes for Freeview. It appears you need a freeview+ box and a separate HD box.

I have found these two but they are not available yet

Are there any others?

There are no Freeview HD PVR's available yet, although one from Humax is due out imminently (before the Word Cup certainly).
You can buy a Humax HD Freeview Box (HD Fox T2): HD but not a PVR.
Or you could go the Freesat route and get a Humax Foxsat HDR (gives you Freesat HD and PVR in one unit).
Richer Sounds have good deals on these.

Thanks for the replies. I have just canceled Sky and saved myself around £36 a month until the football season starts again. I wouldn't mind getting HD until with the saving(£108) but unless the ebuyer option becomes viable it appears I would have to fork out about £300.

£148 will get you a Foxsat HD box, £215 will get you a Foxsat HDR (with recording facilities).
Since you already have a Sky dish and (at least) a twin feed from your LNB, that is all you need for Freesat HD-just plug the box into your existing feed.
It's a fraction of what you have spent on Sky at £36 a month.

I could connect my TV to a computer but I don't think there are any HD TV cards on the market yet.

Great suggestion and it would work in most circumstances. Trouble is my sky box is connected upstairs and the tv is downstairs (the sky picture is sent by video sender to the tv downstairs). Running the twin feed downstairs for HD connection is not an option.

Could you run another pair of cables straight from the dish?

My Sky HD doesnt use a twin cable. Just plugged it into the old single cable that was already there.

Now watch ITV/BBC/ etc for free on Sky HD box. No subscription.

A scart based video sender won't transmit HD content, you would need an HDMI based one ( if you can get them)
A Sky + HD box needs twin feeds so you can record one channel whilst watching another, no subscription no recording facilities , so no need for the second feed.

However shotgun type satellite cable will usually fit through the existing single feed holes.
